Why is game so slow when map starts?

    Hi,
I have just installed a 6600gt card (& SB live) and found that when I start playing in a map my computer starts reading stuff from the hard drive which slows my game down a lot . I thought it could be lag related but does it when only few (8-12) players online.

Could it be because I have just upped my graphics & sound settings to match my hardware?
It never used to read the HD at start of a new game & I have 1.25gig of RAM which does nt seem to do much.

I have raised res to 1024 x 768 & sounds to high EAX enabled.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks :)

I get the same thing. I think it has to do with the game itself. My rig is in my sig which shows i really shouldn't be getting lag.

it does that on every pc, trust me.
my friend has an $5000 completely maxed out Alienware computer and it lags a little during the beginning.

its because its rendering all the objects and stuff like that.

I thought agp fastwrite was suppose to be a good thing....

Can you indicate any fps increase?

            51. Enable AGP Fast Write

The AGP fast write BIOS setting allows the processor to communicate directly with the graphics processor, ignoring the need to send data through the system's memory. This should be enabled to provide a performance boost. You should ensure that your video card supports fast writes before setting this option, however.

Almost all recent video cards do support AGP fast write. This setting is generally found in the 'advanced chipset features' section of the BIOS.

Upgrading from 1 gig to 2 gigs fixed my lag at the begining of a newly loaded map problems..

AGP Fast Writes can cause problems on some games tho, mostly new ones. I used to have this enabled. When i shut it off in BIOS i stopped getting CTD & slow startup on BF2
