joystick configuration problem

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum... but I'm using it for BF2 vanilla so it seems appropriate. I just bought the Sidewinder Precision2 joystick, I like flying but with mouse and keyboard I can only handle one chopper with reasonable success... and it's barely reasonable.

My problem is this. The Joy Axis 0. When I lean left it rolls right and when I lean right it rolls left. I know I could get used to it eventually but it goes against years of gaming instincts (it's like leaning forward to pitch up or leaning backward to pitch down... I just can't cope with it).

The control options only let you choose the axis, they don't let you choose the specific direction to correspond to the controller direction... can anyone pls advise? How can I configure this? (I checked the joystick software and it only lets me program keystrokes, macros and sensitivity, it doesn't let me reverse the axis)

I had a similar problem with mine, turns out under the "Roll left" option i pressed right on the joystick, try recalibrating making sure you press the right direction.

I tried, but even if I remove all the button configs... when I try to reassign it says "that button is already being used in Air" or "Heli"... even thought it's not

I'll keep trying though

edit:

the correct message is "duplicate key found in helicopter controls" even though the 0 axis isn't used anywhere else... I've saved and re-entered... I've gone back to defaults and redone it... nothing... I can't bind the control...

I'm going to try to restart and then do it again, see if that helps. When I first programmed the controls I may have done it wrong, but at least I did it.

set your helo to default and then try and set up your jet stuff...i had a problem with the "key already used" message to, fortunately for me i'm a k&m helo pilot

first question is :how did you buy a sidewinder? thought they were no longer made? I use an old one - and there are no winxp drivers
how about burning me a copy of your driver's so I can get my keys to function via software inputs - thanks

now - here is the solution to your problem
go in to aircraft setup and place your mouse cursor in roll and pitch
and clear out our selections (by hitting escape - I think)
now - here is the IMPORTANT part
the ROLL and Pitch axis are connected
BUT IF YOU ENTER THE WRONG DIRECTION FIRST - YOUR IN GAME RESULTS WILL BE BACKWARDS

this has held true for various brands of joysticks not just sidewinders
so, place mouse in LEFT roll first - then push sidewinder left
the RIGHT settings will auto complete
then do pitch UP 1st and down will auto complete

I managed to get it to work... I went back to defaults and changed the roll and pitch before changing anything else, then when that was safely in place I changed the fire buttons and etc.

As for where I got it... I went to an outdated PC shop :) I even managed to get one with english packaging and software (I'm in Korea)... cost me 35 bucks which I thought was kind of nifty.
