Are hacks that accept money violating a law? Fraud? Any lawyers?

Anyone who's a lawyer know if a hack that accepts money is violating the law? Is this a way to shut them down?

I mean if you write a program that is used to break someone's encryption (ala the DVD encryption battle several years ago), can't you be sued or sent to jail?

Should hack sites be reported to the FBI is basically what I'm asking?

Valve got OGC (whose servers resided in germany) to shut down through the courts years ago. Dunno why EA is dropping the ball on this though.

sorry, im not a lawyer but it makes sense and sounds possible. i just dont know why any private citizen would spend the time and money to take it/them to court. if say EA sees it necessary then that is another story.

I'm sure they would be more concerned about limewire than they would be about a cheater on BF2.

Why would they be concerned about Limewire?

because its an illegal file sharing network much more traversed than hacking websites... but ea would not be involved in that, the government would

Just to clear up: the network itself is not illegal, but the majority of files on it are.

The thing is they don't sell hacks, they sell a membership subscription. However that entitles you to download their hacks. I think that's how they get around it.

exactly. and if you read the first post he mentions people writing programs that can break DVD encryption. which is kind of the same as someone making a program (limewire) to DL copyrighted files. he also mentioned hack sites being reported to the FBI, which is why I said if anything they'd be more worried about something like limewire than a web site for cheating at games.
