    What's worng with Steam?

I see a lot of those sigs that bash steam and valve, but why? I think steam is an excellent piece of software. It updates your games and it's simple to use and no bugs . And the geniuses at valave let me run CS:S at pretty much all high settings with AA on. Definently can't do that with BF2. Why the bashing?

    i <3 steam!

I think it's the fundamental concept of having to get permission from some external entity each time you want to play your own game is what bugs people, at least subconsciously. That, and it also feels like you are running some sort of spyware. <shrug>

BTW, I know I will get bashed for this, but what exactly does "<3" mean? I know it means "love," but why does it mean that?

Im also confused why people dont play HL2 and CSS because of steam. If you think about it, css is so much more polished and unglitchy as BF2. And with css, you dont have to change your gameplay stance after a patch comes out because teh patch nerfed your favouite gun **cough** Battlefield **cough**

Steam used to be completely horrible, and most people still remember that even though most of the major problems are now solved.

                  Re: What's worng with Steam?

Steams a piece of ****, not only that their support <rofl what support? and you all complain about EA, when I contacted Valve after waiting what 3-4 weeks to get them to respond to my issue, and their response was turn DMZ off when DMZ has always been off? lol. So I send them a MSINFO32 report and they say ''We see nothing wrong with the MSINFO32 report you sent us, sorry we cannot assist you further''

And thats acceptable? lol, they started ignoring me after I emailed them back after that. But its been about 10 months since my Steam worked and I've spent well over £100 on the games on the account, I have the discs for the games in my room, and the cd-key but im not ****ing entitled to play it? Im not buying a whole new router and getting someone to come in and repair a connection which Steam says it cannot connect when everything else works fine.

Not only that Valve don't even have a help line you can call? LOL how bad is that I mean for a established company (rofl) they don't even have a help line, I mean thats like me taking a **** and not flushing the toilet, it ****es people off. Hell they won't help me and now im over £100 down in cash, and can't do **** all, I mean I can't sell my account since its my own damn name in it, and the other thing is I tried my account at a friends house and it works, the tech support also tried it and it works. So I don't know what the **** is wrong but they ****ed up along the lines somewhere and can't be bothered to get off their asses and fix the ****, and im stuck with all these games that I can't even play, ****ing ******** I tell you, this has to be illegal or something, theres no way a company can get away with this **** in a democracy is there? Don't suggest anything to me as it has been tried, but answer me one question, upon looking on the Steampowered forums well over 90% of the problems that people have are with Steam constantly, why the **** won't they re-code it since it was ****ty coding in the first place, I mean whats the point in having a product that gives problems left right and center? I want my money back but it won't happen, and you know what that means? I was ****ed over.

Either way where is the Steam bashing sigs or whatever, I'd like one please thank you :).

                    Very true.

One of the things that ****ed me off is I was extremely good with the PKM in 1.12. When they messed around with it, i had to change my style to a different kit.

i have no problems with steam. i actually like using it, digital distribution sounds like the future.

the main problem right now though is i havent touched it IN MONTHS. i bought CSS and DoDS separrete, sure they were fun but after 1-2 months i stopped playing em. maybe one o these days ill get back to DoDS but not CSS, why? awp whores.

Steam is a 1000X better than it used to be. But it's still not as good as the old WON days.

                              Counter-Strike 1.5, Half-Life 1, Steamless CS Project, WON2, World Opponent Network 2, No-WON, Steamless, CS Beta, GoldSRC, Gold Source, CS 1.5, No-Steam

The famous 100% Steamless version of Counter-Strike 1.6, which it all started with. Let's say, CS 1.6 without ****

                              Why Steamless?
In 2003, Valve made a big mistake. They created Steam. Steam is a program and network that (according to Valve's story) is much easier to use than Half-Life (WON system). Well, it isn't. Many people can't run it because it uses too many system resources, or even when they have a modern pc (like a 1 GHZ+ proc) Steam still keeps lagging. Gaming communities can only run a few servers on the same machine by the same cause.

Although the Steam network now appears to be quite stable, the new Friends function (where you can chat with your CS friends - useless, we have MSN or ICQ for this) doesn't work most of the time, not to mention when you're behind a firewall.

Most of the old-schools disliked that Valve forced them to move to Steam, and didn't let them play through the old way. To give people back what Valve shutdown, the Steamless CS Project was started.
