A good map would be one where there was only one goal. Like a US spawn on top of a hill and a chinese spawn at the bottom, just that. Loads of fighting and sniping and everything it would be really cool as you would always be in the action.

        SAS v MEC

        Urban Coastal Setting (Dusk)

multiple HALO insertion points for SAS

ATV's and jetskis with canals through the city.

        Plenty of destructible bridges.

An objective-style map. Maybe SAS vs. Insurgents. Basically, the SAS have to attack and destroy an objective that the Insurgents have to defend. Lots of CQC, a tank and APC, and lots of transport vehicles.

SAS wins the round if they destroy the objective, Insurgents win if the objective survives. It would be a lot like the Objective Mode in BF1942 on Battle for Britain, where the Germans had to try to knock out the British factory and radar.

I just think it would be a lot more like the job that special forces do. Real life special forces move in quickly, hit their objective, then get out. I think that BF2's SF should have reflected this more.

That sounds good, too. It's kinda frustrating that BF2 only shipped with a two handfuls of maps, and only game "mode".
Ever play TFC (team fortress classic)? It was based on the original Half-Life engine. There were progressive assault maps (usually 5 CPs)--the defenders would spawn first, and have a chance to build defenses, camp choke points, etc. And then a gate would open, turning the assaulting force loose to capture the first point. If the defenders lost the first point, there spawn point moved back farther toward their "home base". The closer to the home-base the defenders got, the more the layout favored defense. There was a time limit, there were several classes to play, and the maps were fairly far-flung, but also offered some more intense street battles.

Even a capture the flag would have been a welcome change of pace.

I think BF2 is a great game, but there was so much more potential...

One I would like to see would be called "Block War"
Two city blocks with lots of tall buildings with a highway going through the middle.

Plenty of Armour, APC, Technicals, whatever combat on the ground level.

Building are close enough together to zip line, grapple, or base jump to go back and forth. Windows, balconies etc give plenty of sniper, AT, support positions.

                Mass Chaos, instense ubrban combat.

My perfect map would be at night, SAS vs Rebels, a big canal through the middle of the map, in a big covered forest with only ONE BRIDGE, and that one bridge is the only way 2 cross from one side to the other :) oh well, i can always dream

A snow map would be awesome... In the Swiss alps cuz the MEC are trying to invade random countries (lol). With really tight valleys/canyons for challenging dog fights.

you know what would be awesome? a snow mountain map with a village in the middle with a tower you can snipe from. OMFG that'd be intense. There'd be creeks running around the map with different little villages where the flags are at.

I'd also love to see a winter map maybe with the Russians against the SAS, would be great, shame its never going to happen, I thought that they (EA/DICE) had rinsed their hands with SF support wise.

                                Re: new SF map desired

No, there won't be any more maps for SF... Didn't EA cut off support for SF already? So they won't be releasing any new toys for it, although we could still dream. The best we could hope for would be a mod based on SF rather than on vanilla BF2.

I like the idea for the winter maps with snow (anyone ever play the Frostbite mod for Ghost Recon?) - that would really be good. I also love the idea of giving the Chinese a SF army - MEC and the US from vanilla are represented with their special forces units in SF, so why not China too? I think it's more likely that we'd get a straight map though, which featured existing terrain styles (ie no snow) and existing armies (ie no Chinese SF).

In that case, I would rather see a mix of armies that don't currently fight each other. There have been suggestions for SAS v Insurgents, Rebels v Spetznaz etc, but these matchups already exist on other maps. I'd like to see SAS v MECSF, or SEALs v Insurgents or something.

In terms of the map itself, I say something relatively small, in keeping with the rest of the SF maps, but I'd like it to be some kind of attack on a military compound - an army barracks or an air force base or something. Actually... Night Flight is already on an airfield, so probably an army base would be better. Rather than have the SEALs/SAS/Spetznaz assaulting Rebel/Insurgent positions as seems to happen throughout SF, how about a Rebel/Insurgent counter-attack against a proper camp held by the SAS/Spetz/SEALs...?

There should be two uncap spawns for the attacking team - one to approach the base over land, and the other should be at some kind of pier where you can get boats and jetskis to go up a river that runs through (or maybe right next to) the base. That would allow more than one avenue of attack and could catch the defenders out if they don't do things properly. We all know how boring Karkand can get if the US just does the whole frontal assault on Hotel thing - it's far better when they manage to outflank the MEC and capture some of the flags at the rear. This would allow the same sort of thing. The water element would give it a bit of a feel of Mass Destruction, and the base should have permanent buildings to clear and fight in as well as guard towers and tents.

I would say no air units, although for realism you could argue that the base would have a chopper handy... Day or night... Tough call... I think it would actually be cool if it could be a dawn or dusk battle, actually... Areas of it would certainly need NVG, but the more open areas would still be light enough to see normally...
