The issue is probably with BF2, and not the idrive. Your not going to get much help here, or anywhere on the internet, because most people dont have half a grand to blow on a 4GB hard drive.

My best idea is that BF2 might be running out of space, or it could just be one of many 1.3 bugs. I would try another game and see if it works on your i drive. Odds are its BF2's buggy code, and not the drive itself that is broken.

I dont think its a space issue because BF2 hardly takes up 3gig so I have extra space on the drive at all times.

A single SATA 2 will run bf2 alot better then raptors raid0. I got a SATA and I am the first one in every server since I got it. Bf2 icon spins twice and im in.

So in other words your loading time is pretty fast and the verifying data takes what? 3 seconds?

What RAM modules are you using?

On servers with timers until start of map, how many seconds do you have remaining when you do load in?

SATA2 is an interface, it also happens to be faster then IDE. A single SATAII HD, without another one to be in a RAID Array runs just as fast as Raptors running in a RAID0 Config, and they last longer, or from my experience anyway.

Corsair XMS Series are the RAM I am using. 2x 1GB sticks.
Well when I loaded into the HELLSFURY server it was maxed out at 50 seconds, and a guy on ts with me got in at about the 7 seconds left till it started. Usually I am the first one in. All I am running is a single SATAII 7200RPM harddrive 250GB WD Caviar SE16.

My processor could also help a bit but I doubt it, its an FX57.

Sorry, sir you are wrong. Just because it has a faster interface speed, doens't mean the transfer speed is higher. Sata2 is no faster than SATA150. You're experiance is wrong. If you want, download a program called HDTach and we'll compare results.

SATA2 runs at 283Mb/s I ran a speed test on it myself. Not quiet the 300Mb/s that is promised, but close enough.

Try using HD Tach thats what I used. Before hand when I first installed it, it was running SATA150, and only gettin around 124MB/s. So is it faster? Yeah slightly.

That is burst speed, which is irrevelant. Avg transfer is what matters.

How do I tell average speed then? I can tell a different my from IDE though, thats what matters. I use to raptors in a raid array but they went, and I got tired of replacing them. They loaded bf2 pretty fast, but this seems much faster at verifying.

When you read HD tach, in the colum with the results you will see a category that says avg. read. That is you average sustained transfer rate.

As mentioned it could be space limitation....

I receently had similar problem with my desktop, BF2 would load up the EA logo, then stay black with no HDD activity. Rebooed and again same thing.

I checked my HDD and it had about a 1gig of space. I deleted some large files to free up space and was back up and running.

I know the symptom is not exactly the same but it would seem to make sense.

Thanks everyone for ideas. I think I am going to give this thing one more go this weekend and load BF2 back on it and see how long it will last.

HOWEVER, I am thinking it might be a better idea to return this and go for the V2

Instead of using a PCI slot it uses a drive bay
Uses DDR2 instead of DDR
Uses SATA II

I don't see how anyone can justify the cost. All that to load ONE GAME up faster...
