    I miss squad hopping

I admit it - I miss squad hopping

I miss the fact that I could get right back in the action without having to trek from a flag or hope against the odds that there might be a spare vehicle lying at the main base
I miss being able to see a squadleader alone in an Attack chopper or bomber jet and spawn on him in mid flight to continue the fight as a deadly team
I miss being able to cycle the squad leader so that the combat was always on the frontline.
I actually miss the challenge of overcoming an entire squad before they respawned on their squad leader.
I miss the coordination and teamwork required to stay in the field as much as possible without taking regular trips back to the rear base miles from the action.

It strikes me as odd that this so-called exploit that was so central and benficial to the fast paced warfare on speed gameplay of BF2 was removed at all. I want to be constantly in the action on any map not having to rely on that mess of a map Karkand for constant action. That is not possible any more. And it hurts. Exploit or not it defined and made combat so much more fast paced. Instant action. Being with your squad at all times. Uniting on a flag to cap it faster.

It's been a good few weeks since 1.3 changed this and all in all it has hurt gameplay. You spend more time walking now than shooting rather than the other way round unless you get a squadleader who is an incredible player. An incredible player - one who combines longetivity with being always in the right place - too many times I have had squad leaders with great scores who are always alive miles from where they should be attacking or else constantly lying horizontal.

With DICE it is always the team suggestions that nerf the game - there is no visionary behind the game which saddens me. The team compromise where an individual would dictate the way the game should be.

I know that clans hurt the gameplay by truly exploiting the squad hopping but clanners are never the majority and their competitions should not affect the way the game is played by the majority. Besides all that was needed to fix teams winning matches with negative kdrs was to make it impossible to join a squad if you suicide. That is all that was needed - one simple thing.

I don't know. In the end we are stuck with what was pointed out by the community as a bad thing. How any of you can be optimistic about the open beta when DICE never listen properly is beyond me. The mods would be well advised to revert back to the way things were - when men were men and the gameplay of bf2 wasn't as artificially restricted as it has become...

I'm with you Skeletor about the "Squad Cycling". EA/Dice did mention in their latest update that there would be some revisions to the game. Even though they left "Squad Cycling" out of the Community update, I'm hoping they have seen the light and change it back.

I miss it too, it's rubbish without it. I just don't understand why it was such as huge problem that they disabled it. What's the big frigging deal? I reckon most people squad hopped a bit to find a decent squad then stayed with that squad. When you're dead it's a conveniant time to spend a bit of time looking for a squad, when you've just spawned you want to get playing and not have to go and hide then find a decent squad.

To me it's just a case of "fixing" something that was not broken.

When the new patch came out I think i had like 700 Suicides, now I have over 900, and I've been playing this game since last August. At first I refused to commit Suicide to rejoin my Squad, but Now I don't give acrap. The 30 seconds it will take me to spawn on my SL is probably less time than it would take for me to get a vehicle and find them. Clearly, post 1.3 I don't make a good SL.

Never had to use it really before hand. and now I just focus extra hard on staying alive as a squad leader. and I see other people taking this same mentality as squad leaders, so the pace hasn't changed much, heck on some maps with few cars, it can speed up if commanders are sending their troops car on request.

I wonder how many of the big-talking clan dudes actually quit the game though... from the pre-patch forum posts you would think that there would be a total of 10 servers left after 1.3... Not the case.

I agree that it slowed the pace of play a little bit, but that is only the case if your squad leader isnt smart enough to stay alive. Rambo wasn't a squad leader and as such, squad leaders shouldnt run around like Rambo.

if I'm squad leader, I'm either a medic or Support... usually a medic. I stay at the rear of my group and lay down cover fire and revive them as I go...When the battle gets into close quarters (Warlord house or karkand hotel, Mashtuur TV station etc... I hang back and give my squad a spawn point.

If you are a member of a squad and every time you die you are forced to spawn at a remote location and trek back to the fight... dont blame dice or EA... blame your squad leader for being crappy at his job.

If that squad leader is you, rexamine your role.

                    boring = tactical sometimes. Sorry.

hanging back doesnt mean hiding in a shed avoiding action. It means being the last to charge into a room instead of the first... it means letting some sorry sod in my squad take out the claymore rather than me... it means not getting killed so that when my squad does, they have a close spawn point.

                    This isnt counterstrike.

I miss it, as well. I understand that many players were happy to see it go, but I wish EA would've created a server-side option so that server administrators could decide whether or not to have it in.

If not, they should've rewarded SL's with a portion of their squad's points ala the commander role. I'm sick of flying around as a mobile spawn point in a blackhawk and only getting 3 points in a round while the rest of my squad gets 50+.

You're right for the most part, but EA/Dice IMO didn't design the game that way. The game is geared around Points/Badges/Medals/Ranks etc. Playing SL post 1.3, as you describe doesn't reward the SL for staying alive ,therefore it's a Fubar system IMO.

I understand your complaints, because I used it as a crutch as well.

however, I have found that since they got rid of it, there is more teamwork. Guys join my squad and STAY in it if I stay alive. I get a lot more communication and if I am doing my job as a SL (staying alive, spotting, supression fire) we do much better and it is a lot of fun.

it sucks, however, when you only have 3 people in your squad and you, as the SL, die and have to spawn all the way back

Really? I thought the game was centered around having fun, team play and semi-realism?

Just because you let the points and the badges get in the way of your fun doesn't mean that that is the way the game is designed.

IMHO i see less teamwork than before. Further the game speed decreased significantly compared to pre 1.3.

While i can understand that some thought of it as an 'exploit' and prefer the way it is now i don't give a **** about DICE's 'vision' how that game should be because i bought it for what the demo was and i probably wouldn't buy it as it is now.

Squad hopping or not is like playing the game arcade or realistic. They - DICE - should stop pressing a certain 'this is the way you have to play the game' on people and make all their crappy 'improvements' (squad hopping, cartillery, ...) a server side option and concentrate on fixing real bugs. This way many more people would be happy.

PS: all this 'just clans like it' is ******** as some league ladder whatsoever could make a rule and enforce it on their members - so this is about public servers.

One of the bigger gripes I have with playing as Squad leader now is actual squad leading is gone. You cannot lead the advance, give orders relating to actual combat or set the example for your squadmates when you are supposed to be hiding in a bush
The game is just slower...and BF2 shines when its manic - its whole appeal is that it is warfare on steroids played at 100 miles an hour
