    New Heightmap Tool Available

    Hey all,

I just wanted to let you know that I've released a BF2 Heightmap tool some of you might find useful. You can check it out here:

I'll be releasing a tutorial shortly (when my mid-terms are over) describing how you can use it to import real-world terrain elevation data from the USGS website.

Interesting... I'd like to help you figure it out, (and fix the tutorial where I'm losing everyone). I need a little more info though. Those of you who just said, "doesn't work", please clarify, so I can help.

              Sir. Mavrik347:
I assume you're following the tutorial... Is that screenshot is from photoshop? It looks like you're 99% there. Unfortunately, the devil's in the details
              - Double-check what you download from USGS. It should be NED 1, 1/3, or 1/9 in BIL format.
              - Double-check the settings you use when you open the .RAW in photoshop (especially the width & height - don't get them backwards - check the .hdr file). Other settings should be: Channel Count: 1, Depth: 16-bits, Byte-order: IBM PC, Header: 0 bytes.

I just tried Pearl Harbor myself (the whole island), and it seems to work...

Let me know if you're still stuck,

Ermm yeah, how you say open it in PS the the size settings in text, PS won't accept it and I followed your tut word for word, downloaded as NED 1/3 Bilinear.

Yeah thats a screenshot of what PS showed me, mine was just of the harbour part though with the sea in the south.

                eg.

What version of PS are you using? I'm using 8.0 (aka. CS)

What's the error message PS gives you?
                  1. "Specified image is larger than file." or
                  2. "Specified image is smaller than file; open anyway?"

Are you doing this on a PC? (If you're using a Mac, try the Mac byte-order setting.)

I'm using PS 7.0 and the message is "Invalid numeric entry. An integer between 1 and 30000 is required."

Ah, so I assume you're entering a number over 30,000 then. Try selecting a smaller area on USGS. Or better, if you want that whole area, download NED 1 instead of NED 1/3. There's no point in importing an image that's much larger than the size of your map (something like 5000 x 5000 works well). I'll add a note to the tutorial.

i think you should add mode details to your tutorial - im even to stupid to get this data - and in PS there isnt any error - just opens the raw file and looks like my grandma's a** .... your screenshots look very cool but i cant even use your program

                          Re: New Heightmap Tool Available

I've worked with Vestalis, and found the trouble he was having:

If you're getting garbled looking images, double-check that you are entering the width / height correctly into Photoshop.

NCOLS is width, and NROWS is height! This might seem backwards to you...

I've also released an update which fixes a couple bugs.

                          Download the latest version:

                            good stuff, DLing now

edit: I get the "specified image is larger than file" error, yet I have the right width and height, atleast what it says in the hdr file. I even tried swapping the two but it still doesnt work

                            layout is BIL, dataset: Ned1
