Re: EA wants your input re: open beta patch

If it works don't fix it and the closed beta testing most certainly is not broken.

We the community are not going to find bugs that real beta testers have not already - how is that so hard to understand
I apologise if I'm not being swept up in this naive optimism but no amount of open betas will change a companies quality control - that is an internal issue.
DICE knew BF2 wasn't ready when it shipped.
DICE knew patch 1.3 had plenty of issues that would affect a large minority
DICE knew about the bugs we complained so bitterly about before we even saw them.

What does that tell me? The Beta testing worked just fine. The final patches were just that - tested exhaustively yes but bugs were not corrected. Never. Not in one of BF2's patches
What does that tell you? Is your faith in open testing strengthened by the truth?

IT CANNOT HURT. If it does, then so be it -- they just won't do it again. No need to get your panties in a bunch over something that hasn't happened yet. Ever heard of the phrase "live and learn"? Let it happen before you go bonkers over it.

I will not just keep my mouth shut when stupid decisions are affecting a game that I enjoy a great deal
I think it's cute how all of you are so excited about it - like any of your feedback will matter a bit

People who know what there talking about will agree that this is just a stupid Idea why waste time and effort giving it to the public, the patch should be beta tested by people like the sir community and other mod teams so they can then give input to help return this game to its former glory and dare I say it put the fun back in the game. They are the ones who should be listend too because they are experianced and most importantly they know what there talking about.

Re: EA wants your input re: open beta patch

I'm against the open beta idea because of the sheer fact that it is a gigantic waste of time. Like $keletor said, it's not the fact that we're not finding bugs to fix, it is the fact that the bugs have already been found, and they're not getting fixed.

An open beta will not fix any bugs, and will rarely find any newly discovered bugs because I am positive the closed beta testers are doing a fine job. Having an open beta will do nothing but have people "test" a patch and report bugs that have already been found by closed beta testers. Not to mention those kiddies who will just whine and moan about the game some more and hope to get in ridiculous features like the vehicle drop.

but u see EA/DICE took away the fun parts of the game, so us public hopefully will be listened to. ****

I didn't ask you to keep your mouth shut, I just don't understand why you're in such opposition to something that could potentially do good. This isn't the government, we don't need to make a monumentous decision over whether to use an atomic weapon or not - It's just a video game. If the open beta proves not to be that fruitful, then so be it. It just won't happen again. And it won't damage the game, as the final patch will not be released until the beta's over.

And I disagree with you, MiK. What makes Sir. or mod teams so special over the rest of us? Despite the status they may hold on these boards, they're players, just like the rest of us. If anybody should be allowed to beta test, it should just be closed or the entire community; not to a few selective groups.

I say just roll back to 1.2, at least I could play for more than 30 minutes before a CTD which I had only once before the $hit hit.

i agree that this is to increase revenue, but it can only be a good thing to have many, many people testing a patch for the people who are coding, especially if the people testing having coding skills and can relay these technical issues in a way that helps all the other end-users. to me, this is a good thing. a little late, but better late than never. if this helps them with 2142, and makes everyone's experience better, i will be happier with EA/DICE's public relations. although, i probably wont pick up 2142, regardless.

This is a good thing as long as they LISTEN to what everyone finds.

Now instead of having a small group of beta testers, you have thousands of people who are playing the game and creating different scenarios and finding different effects/bugs of the patch that would have never been found before. How the **** is this a bad thing.
