Direct X fails to install

Ive just wiped my system as i had a bad virus :cry:

Now im trying to install BF2 agian

the installation goes fine until the installation of the direct X the installation gives the following message "please wait while direct x 9.0c is updating"

then nothing happens

if i cancel the installation then Bf2 doesnt read itself as setup and so just restarts the installation

i already have direct x 9.0c is this why the installation stops working?

Any help would be appreciated

i left it for over half a hour

it didnt seem like it was doing anything no HD clicking or CPU usage
