Ranked Servers VS. Unranked Servers.

Been some talk lately, (again) about pistol only servers, knife only servers, no tank servers, and the like.
I just sorta had to get this very obvious thing off my back.

You can rent a bf2 server. You can do whatever you want with it. (see above) However, you must follow a set of rules set forth by DICE/EA. When you agree to follow this set of rules, you can become a RANKED server.
Now, if you wanna say heck with the rules........thats fine. You can become an unranked server.

How hard is this for people to "get"?
The biggest arguement i hear from people who want to knife and pistol only, or other type things..........is, who cares about ranks......we dont care. Thats why we do it, we do it for fun.
Ok............then why is it ranked?
I dont know, there really is zero room to argue here.
Ranked....you follow a set of rules.
Unranked....you do what you want.

Problem is, it's hard getting people to join unranked servers. We've set up our unranked server with vehicles removed and commander assets disabled. Anybody could join without requiring any custom maps or anything, but still it was impossible to get it populated.
During the BF1942 and BFV years (pre-ranked years), these type of servers were extremely popular. Lot of players new to BF aren't even aware of unranked server and have never even played on them once. Such is the way it is now.

Maybe it will be easier to populate unranked servers now that the new patch will allow unlocked weapons in such servers.

Unlocks were allowed pre 1.3 , which is when we ran the infantry only maps. People are just used to playing on ranked server and probably have unranks filtered out so they never even see them.

Serious question since I almost never play ranked servers and don't care about stats. Heck I don't even know one unlock from an other since unlocks are not allowed in CAL and TWL.

I know ranking has nothing to do with skill, it's simply a reflection of time played, and I also know you get badges and ribbons. So other than a pistol badge, what is a player is getting on a Pistols only server that's so bad, that he needs to have his stats re-set, and the server shut down?

I just don't see the harm :hmm:
