It's 10, but I'll be damned if I can tell any difference b/t 1 and 10 on playback.
What I don't understand is that a BF2 demo is not a video recording, it is a record of events and the order they occurred in. So why is there a range of 1 to 10? Does 10 record more events? The file size at 10 is certainly way bigger than at 1.
