There may not be a problem here, THG and other sites have shown that some SLI configs get a lower average fps than single card configs, depending on the game.

Take a look at this, it compares single cards to the new GeForce 7950 GX2 http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/06/06...uk/page10.html

It may be ignorant and prejudicial, but I feel no pity for a dude who spends $900 on video cards then cant do the research to get them to work properly.

SLI is a trademarked product from Nvidia, noone should have to do any "research" to get it to work properly, other than reading the owners manual. And yes, you are both ignorant and prejudicial in your statement. If someone works hard enough that they can afford to spend whatever amount on computer hardware that is their business and none of yours.

That being said, have you downloaded the latest drivers? Also have you set the hardware up correctly? There is one correct video output on the cards to plug your monitor into (out of a possible 4 on my setup). Also depending on what motherboard you are using is the motherboard properly configured? Be sure to check the motherboards manufacturers site for the latest drivers there, as well.

I've used SLI for quite sometime now, and it delivers quite well in both stabilty and stunning performance.

Evga 7900gt ko sli <-- there is your problem right there.

My friend just got through taking back two 7900's and trading them in for x1900's because eVGA has a big problem right now between nvidia and their cards. Its a blame war between them, one says they over clock them too much the other says its the new chip.

                  eVGA cards just suck period.

Go with BG if you stick with Nvidia. I am a die hard ati fan because crossfire is scaable so I dont have to have two x1900's, I could have one x1300 and one x850 and still run crossfire.

It depends more on the graphics setting than any particular game. Higher resolutions benefit much more from SLI than lower resolutions do. SLI doesn't really benefit someone running 1024 X 768, but at higher resolutions SLI almost always outperforms a single card. Also that particular article you linked specifies a single card with dual GPU's, not a typical SLI setup. My monitor (an HP 2335 23" widescreen) runs at a native resolution of 1920X1200. At that resolution I have tested my system with a single card and with SLI, and in every single test SLI outperforms a single card.

You are so wrong it's laughable. Crossfire has many similarities with sli, one being that both cards have to be the same model for crossfire to work. (Right now you do need one master card, but ati will be removing that requirement soon) Next time, if you don't know what you're talking about please don't post. Evga has taken responsibility for their faulty cards, and if you get a broken one they'll even cross ship you a new one so you don't have to sit there for a few days with no card.

Then let me introduce you to CrossFire Xpress 3200 which came with my board the A8N32 - MVP deluxe,

"However, with ATI's release of the new Motherboard Chipset named "CrossFire Xpress 3200", the 'master' card is no longer required for every "CrossFire Ready" card (with the exception of the Radeon X1900 series). With the CrossFire Xpress 3200, two normal cards can be run in a Crossfire setup. This move from ATI is viewed as an overall improvement in market strategy due to the fact that Crossfire Master cards are expensive, in very high demand, and largely unavailable on the retail level. The new chipset also gives slightly better system performance, stability (due to major bug fixes), and extremely flexible overclockability. It is now being projected by the enthusiast community that with ATI's progress, they will catch up and pass nVidia's solution in overall performance within the next few revisions of the CrossFire Xpress chipsets."

I know all about the new 3200 chipset, but that doesn't change the fact that you have to use two same model cards (x1300,x1600, x850, etc). You can't combine other cards, like an x850 and a x1300. I don't know where you found your information but its dead wrong.

I'm glad he got his problem solved, but there are just as many people who have switched to nvidia from ati for just the same reasons. Besides, when do you ever see positive posts? More people will always post when they have a problm, not when they're doing fine.

"14. How are the two graphics cards connected on a CrossFire system?

                            A. CrossFire Edition and CrossFire Ready cards are connected by an external cable. The cable is attached from the CrossFire Ready graphics card’s DVI connector to the CrossFire Edition high density input connector (DMS). The partially rendered image is sent through the DVI connection to the CrossFire Edition DMS input connector. The partially rendered image from the cable input is combined with the CrossFire Edition’s partially rendered frame in the compositing engine. The compositing engine combines the result of both cards to output a complete image.

Radeon X1300 and X1600 CrossFire Ready cards do not require an external connector. CrossFire mode is enabled via software and the cards communicate over the PCI Express® bus. "

"2. What graphics cards work with CrossFire?

                            A. A complete CrossFire system requires a CrossFire Ready motherboard, a CrossFire Edition graphics card and a compatible standard Radeon (CrossFire Ready) graphics card from the same series, or two CrossFire Ready cards if they are software enabled. This applies to cards from ATI or any of its partners."

I just proved you wrong twice and this time I used the OEM's website to do so. I am done with this thread and this part of the forum, there is nothing but sir asses here who have nothing better to add to a thread.

As I said before go with BFG cards if you choose to stick with nVidia. Otherwise, go with Ati.

SLI is still better IMO, easier to set up and the warrantys are great.

Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers (Nforce4) and video card drivers and see if that help. SLI may only get a big boost with high resolutions but lower resolutions like 1024x768 do take advantage also.
