Forget about shotguns? I have to disagree. The DAO is a beast and I've been able to get a 1.5+ KDR with it. Maybe I just suck with smgs i suppose...
The reason for the dumbfire technique is that you can quickly snap shots on tanks. Firing above the target and guiding down usually involves a long distance to be covered, and besides, dumb firing leaves you safe to run and get cover immediately after a shot. I've found that armor isn't the threat anymore, but infantry taking shots at my melon while guiding the rocket.
I think they're two different techniques used at different times, but I still prefer dumbfiring when presented with the opportunity so I'm not a sitting target for infantry/snipers, even if the tank doesn't know I'm there.
