Hi everyone! I was playing BF2 happily even after patch 1.3 until I built a new, faster and more powerful system! Now I cant play at all!
Please help me, I'm new to Dual Core systems and think my problem lies here somewhere.
Ok system i had it working was:
CPU - Intel Pentium 4 Prescott class D, 3.2gb Socket 478
RAM - 1024mb (2x Corsair DDR400 512mb)
VGA - ATI Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition on AGP
HDD - 1 x 250 Maxtor SATA, 1 x 40gb IDE Windows Drive, 1 x 160Gb WD Caviar SATA, 1 x 160gb WD Caviar IDE (has since crashed!!!)
AUDIO - Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2 zs
OS Windows XP Pro SP2 32 bit
Was all working fine, patched incrementally all the way up to 1.3
So, I built a bew system cos I wanted to get on the servers before all the planes got nicked, this is:
CPU - AMD Athlon x2 (Dual Core) 3800 Socket 939 (in UL8 AGP Mainboard)
RAM 2048mb (1 new Corsair 1024mb + the 2 from the last system)
VGA - ATI Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition on AGP (from last system)
HDD - 1 x 250Gb SATA MAxtor + 1 x 320Gb WD Caviar SATA
AUDIO - Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2 zs (from last system)
OS Windows XP Pro SP2 32 bit (from last system)
I Installed all the stuff including AMD's cool n quiet driver and PCI to VGA driver before graphics driver as asked etc, the cd that came with the mainboard, then all my normal drivers and windows updates etc
installed BF2 and patched straight to 1.3 successfully
Loading BF2 i then got Memory Sanity Error (in a windows error box) block ###.## does not appear sane
wierd errror i know but i read up on it and decided to try different ram configs, and looked at mainboard manual for pairing rules etc
ok still happening, uninstalled bf2 and tried patching incrementally all the way up, now it is getting to about 59% when I load a map (single or multiplayer) then crashing to desktop.
I have done this uninstall, clean registry reinstall stuff 12 times now using patches downloaded from different locations, to ensure it isnt a patch corruption and the same thing happened.
I decided to be safe and stick to the 1 new stick of Corsair 1024 DDR 400 ram and re=install windows, mainboard drivers, vga, sound etc etc and reinstalled bf2
Now whether i use an incremental patch or a full patch i get a "patch failed" patching error partially thru the overall install, and sometimes even an end program report with it, then a box saying patched successfuly. This is the normal successful patch box you would expect after a successful patch. No more sanity checks tho, which is good er, I guess lol
I have been thru every config and program removal you can think of. Have uninstalled cool n quiet driver as I read it could be a cpu monitor prog causing the fault, cleaning registry and restarting as i went and still am getting patching errors.
One good thing is when I install BF2 with no patch, I can play but after a while get a freeze with what ever sound I had coming out the speakers stuck and have to hard reset.
Because of all th things I have tried I would think that this appears to be an AMD problem??? Could it be because I am using a 64 bit CPU on Windows XP Pro 32 bit? AGP to PCI driver problem, Cool n quiet problem? Who knows!!! Answers on a postcard to me asap please!
I have tried older VGA drvers, and different Sound drivers, and have tried older versions of mainboard software, then newer ones, even tried copying my bf2 config, and doing all this again while pasting it in after reinstall
I am resigning myself to the fact that if I want to keep this better, faster system, I will have to go without BF2!!!!
I'm waiting to see if any other games get affected but all are fine so far. Incldinf COD2, FEAR, FIFA 06, Thief 3, Oblivion, blah blah!
Heeelp!!!! Pleeeease!
