Hi there people!
First off, I know I'm not cool. I'm no gamer... I'm just beginning to play FPS games (I can hear you guys sigh already), so please bear with me. Some patience might be required. I'm an IT tech though... this might help a bit.
Here's the problem: Whenever I start a BF2 game, it launches fine, then hangs a couple of times and comes back, then hangs one final time... and the PC reboots! Sounds like hardware, uh?
Now, I've managed to isolate the triggering factor: Any type of weapons firing will cause this bug. I'm thinking there might be a bug associated with the way these sounds are produced by my specific audio adapter... but it's only a theory and I don't know enough about games to use this to my advantage anyway.
Every driver on this machine is up to date and I've tried the modded Catalyst driver for good measure. No effect on my problem.
Here's my setup (please don't laugh):
HP xw8000 workstation
Single Xeon 3.06 CPU
1GB of 533Mhz RAM
ATI Radeon 9250 with 256MB of DDR RAM
SoundBlaster Audigy 4 soundcard
Windows XP SP2
Thank you for any help you can provide! :) I'd really like to play this game... it looks great.
