how do i create multiplayer account

Howdy folks,
just looked thru 20 pages and could not find any other failure to create account. So here's my story: purchased commercial version of BF2.
played it, liked it. Now i want to play with others but keep getting hung when trying to create account or get msg "uniqunic is already in use". Am getting already in use msg even when i mash the keyboard. Went to eagames found nothing. My game is registered.
What am i missing?????
I know i have no signature yet, running a vanilla install of XP home on SLI rig.
Any help is accepted...

How many names have you tried and how imaginative where they? Simple names like John or Bob will probally be used.

You say you have a vanilla installation of windows, does this include service pack 2?

no SP2, had bad experience with SP's in the past. Will install tonight.

Tried both creative names and nonsensical, no joy.
