6600 , what are the best settings

Hi there, i hope this hasnt been asked before.

right i have just built a new pc. with limited money.

CPU: AMD Athlon 3000
2 X 512 Ram ddr 3200
Nforce, motherboard
80 gig hardrive
Geforce 6600 pci-e

right, on single player its fine, but in a ranked server, seems juddery at times, the BF2 video options have been set to medium default , ive tried high its worse, is there a way to get good performance and what should the settings be.

Also what should my resolution be , i dont have a clue

Probably a mix of medium and low. Try it with everything but Dymanic Shadows and Lighting (both of these set to low) and everything else medium.

As for resolution, try both 1024x768 and 800x600 and copmare the FPS you get at each (FRAPS will show you the FPS).

FRAPS, link is above in red.

As for the refresh rate, try and keep it the same as what you use in Windows.

I've got a vanilla 6600 in my second pc and it does 50fps on 1024x768 with all settings at medium and geometry on high. As far as refresh rate, as stated before, just match it to what your setting is for Windows.

i would put it all on meduim 1024x768 no AA

right ok, thanks , now me being a noob to the fraps thing, sorry (women are pains in the ass and we do really like getting it right).

medium settings , ds low and lighting low

1024x768x60hz= 30 to 90
800x600x60=30 to 80

high. ds low and lighting low. changed windows to 75hz

1024x768x75hz. up to 100
800x600x75hz up to 90

right , let me see i done this right, i run the game with fraps on, seen numbers at the top of the screen, jumped into chopper was red 25 then took off went from 1 white to 90+ . that is fraps .

How do u know what is good, i asume the higher it is the better. so i asume high settings at low of the DS and lighing , is ok too.

Its a Ok card , and does its job well. And is good choice when you are on tight budget.

I've got the same vid card. Yeah, a $500+ card would be nice, but this one works (and it's better than nothing).

My setup is similar to yours, Nutty. I run 1280x1024, and everything on medium. I don't use AA, or dynamic shadows. I can tell you the specifics later tonight, and I'll run FRAPS to give you some comparison numbers.

Overall, I think more RAM would give you (and me) the best bang for the buck. Most people suggest 2GB.

These are the settings I use on my 6600GT (rest of system specs below),

VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 1
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 2
VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

And average 50-60 FPS on all maps, with dips to the high 30's low 40's when caught in an atry strike.

Overall, I think more RAM would give you (and me) the best bang for the buck.

I know it smoothed mine out when I went from 1 gb to 1.5 gb (would have 2 gb but one ram slot quit working and can't be arsed to go through the RMA, that and my board was discontinued all most a year ago).

Thanks, im not new to gaming but from bf1942 and my old pc was fine and then BF2 , not so good with updated everything , Yes im on a budget and i did get the 6600 for nothing , so theres no complaints there compared to the 6200 i had , well does that say enough. It is nice to play on a 32+ servers as before i couldnt . I have friends who have top of the line PCs and can i say either there men with no commitments or guys with really good jobs or spoilt kids .

i have been playing with the high settings above and with the odd judder , its doing not to bad.

Sorry... didn't run FRAPs last night. I had a bunch to do. I didn't even have a chance to start-up BF2.

Maybe tonight. I also bought 2 x 1GB Corsair TwinX PC3200 RAM. I'll give some comparison numbers when I install the new ram :).

Just ran FRAPS on a 50 person server (~40-44 people each round). I was averaging between 30-40 FPS, but I had some severe drops at certain points (esp. when the arty was flying, or when everyone was fighting at one spot with UAVs up).

I'm running my 6600GT with the default high settings except the resolution is 1024X768 and 70hz. System specs follow:

Athlon 3500+ overclocked to 2.4Ghz
2 GB (4x512MB) Corsair RAM

NEC DVD/CD reader/burner
