I finally got 1 good game

Ever since buying this game 2 weeks ago, I've had nothing but trouble playing network games. Despite having an average ping of < 100, every server I connect to has "There is a problem with your connection" every 30 seconds or so.

I've called EA support 3 times, making sure that I've opened up all the ports, and that my ISP isn't blocking any ports. This last time they suggested that I uninstall the game, then reinstall it along with the 1.3 patch.

LO AND BEHOLD, I finally get a game without network problems. For about 45 glorious minutes I played a smooth game where I didn't get killed due to a network hiccup every time I went head-to-head with someone.

BUT, I crashed to the desktop the next time I came to play, and I've had the same old network problems ever since. Questions for those of you with the same network issues:

• Did you get them after crashing to the desktop?
• Do your network issues clear up with a full reinstall/repatch?
• Does anyone know what might get left laying around after a crash?

I wonder if the crash and network problems are related.

You might want to check the support forum, there are tons of similar problems.

maybe you dont have enough ram? minimum is 512 but that causes lag and crashes, a gig of ram should smooth out gameplay.

When ever I have had conenction issues, it was my settings that somehow got changed to all high... set them all to medium and no more problems.

I have 2 GB of RAM, an Athlon 64 3500+, and an nVidia GeForce 6800. Hardware should not be a problem. Even though my pings are good, I still get these hiccups. (I'm guessing during these hiccups the ping goes to hell...) I've also tried setting my video options to low, and making my machine the DMZ host on my router. No luck.

As far as the support forum, I see lots of complaints but no solutions, other than "wait for patch 1.3.1". If I can't get this resolved, I'm going to vote with my dollar and return the game. It's just shameful that EA and Dice can't test their code more. I've seen perhaps 10 bugs in the game, but this is the only showstopper for me.

It's not you, it's 1.3. The patch has made servers unstable and crash prone. Nothing can be done until EA/Dice fixes it with probably another patch.


...Jeez, I really oughta just put that in my sig I say it so much, lol.

<100 ping is kinda high actually...perhaps choosing a server closer to you?

<100 ping is good enough for ET, why isn't it good enough for BF2? <100 ping means sometimes "0" ping, which is the best you can get. I just played on LoD's server and it was fine again, but another server was laggy. I guess I can only play on the LoD Karkand server?!

"Wait for 1.31" sure is frustrating. Anyone wanna guess if it will be 1 month or 1 year before it is out? BTW, it ****es me off that the reviews for the game didn't talk about all these problems. Astroturfers.

I've played on servers on another continent with a ping of 250 and it's been stable... the issue is more likely dropped packets if its a network issue, or more likely server stability due to the patch.

ping of less than 100 is good....

a ping of 0 isnt a real ping.....its just not possible......unless you are hosting the server...even on a tiny lan, it will be at very least 1

Few things to try. Where did you get your 1.3 patch from? If you got it from EA Downloader get it from somewhere else like Filefront has been confirmed to not have a corrupted patch.

Download the full 1.3 version not the incremental. Run it again even if you have done the incremental.

Update your PB manually to do so download http://websec.evenbalance.com/downlo...ws/pbsetup.exe (right click save as) Put pbsetup.exe into a folder of its own. Then run it point it to the BF2 installation then check for updates.

With patch 1.3 servers are crashing like crazy. When a server crashes you get a "There is a problem with your connection" this is the server crashing.

to u tools who make stickies about 1.3 full being the answer <you are only making things worse

mem leak and a little thing like lag or pb checking your computer files makes it overload

sometimes just connect loss other times crash to desktop

and for the record i havnt played for 2 weeks so compensate me EA 450 hrs@20$ a hr will do and the hardware i brought too<1000$

just drop the cheque in my mail thanxs EA:p
