Please check the "Helicopter Tutorials" in the Hints and Tips section, made by -ArmyDr-.

I use a joystick, and what I can say is, it needs more practice than using a mouse, however, its usable.

My buddy is just starting up and hes using a mouse. I made this video for him. Its a bit more focused on the technicalities.

Joystick is way better than mouse, you get a much better response time than a mouse. I've flown for years with a joystick in DC, so I am used to it by now.

Personally, I find a mouse easier for helos & a stick for jets. Its personal preference tho'.

I was "forced" to use a mouse. My friend started BF2 with the demo and I guided him to helo aspect of the game. Since my joystick was busted, I had to switch to the mouse, so we both kinda went through the "rookie" stage.

Ive always thought joystick was superior to mouse in helo combat, Ive changed my opinion as I believe mouse offers much more precision control over the helo. While joystick control is too "conventional" and thus limiting, mouse offers more freedom. Youll understand what I mean by siimply trying to stop from going full speed and then turning around. The control you feel with a mouse and the rate at which you slow down is amazing.

If you change your right mouse button to "pull up", its all perfect.

Now, Im not saying mouse is superior, its not. Im saying that mouse opens up more use in some areas.

i use a gd ol mouse but still agree that a joystick will simply alot of manuevres. ie. its easier to fly a chopper or jet with a joystick. n i think the x52 might be a little too advanced for your level....

I was going to insult some people but I'll just leave it at this: mouse > joystick. I don't need to elaborate on this...

Its a debate that's been beaten to death.

I use joystick (same one you have) for jets only. KB/Mouse for Helos, with sensitivity maxed out, and I can fly with anyone. Its really ALL about personal preferences.... Your best bet is to pick one and stick with it, start out with your sensitivity lower and work your way up....

Im the guy who has figured 90% of my stuff on my own. I know Ive implemented rear view, right click on mouse for "pull up" and a few other known/not known stuff from these forums. And I have to disagree with yoru statement. If Id read and knew how to do those "special" moves from here in the first place, without spending countless of hours in LAN, Id be kicking ass a long time ago, and not just starting to be good now. Sucks to learn all by yourself, especially when you learn to do things the WRONG way!

To circle around a point...its kinda wierd to describe....but what you can do is move your mouse one direction while hitting the key to go the other direction in other words move your mouse to the right while tapping the A key or move it to the left while tapping the d key...i know that doesnt make any sense....but its all about practice...and angle...

                              Yeah I use a joystick.

To me, it is 100% > mouse. I have COMPLETE control over the heli.. unless there I get this gay *** ping spike I get all the time where it jumps up to 800 for no reason.

Chodda hop on vent. if you feel like playing. I'm going into BF2 right now.

The biggest trick is to get your back end to swing behind you and "lead". Almost like..... a fishtail or something. Or it feels like you are "drifting in a car", but to a heli.

But don't go fast.. whatever you do.. gunners HATE that. I know myself what gunners like because I am pilot and gunner. I suggest you get good at both piloting and gunner, that way, once you know what both sides look for/do, you will be much better at all aspects of flying.
