For the pilots out there do you use it? If so do you find it more or less effective depending on the aircraft you are in?

Re: Jets: Split-S maneuver
It doesn't work so good with the JSF.
Well if theres like a semi-retarded J-10 behind you, you can do like two split-S's in a row... if you know what I mean.
normally the best thing to do is like a scissors type thing.. to keep breaking lock.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Usually a Split-S looses a tail but the J10s seem to get me before I finish the first half loop even if I use flares.
Can you explain your "scissors" man

It's basically like zig-zagging. The trick is to slow down as you are doing it.Originally posted by Traci_Kila_LordsThats exactly what I was thinking. Usually a Split-S looses a tail but the J10s seem to get me before I finish the first half loop even if I use flares.

So, you are actually breaking the lock every time you do it, and slowing down by the second.
BUT.... this only works if the jet is close. If it's a J-10, and you are in a JSF, and he is at his max. lock distance, you'll die no matter what you do.

Re: Jets: Split-S maneuver
I think a "scissors" maneuver from reading books is when you bank from side to side, so you go in a type of zigzag pattern. It can be done with two aircraft to shoot a tail off your friend, where one of you loses speed and goes "inside" and the other one does the same, but without losing speed. The craft that slowed down should then be behind the enemy aircraft.

Re: Jets: Split-S maneuver
Just fly in circles until the ridelin-addicted newbie in the J-10 behind you loses his attention and flies away.
So far that's about the only thing I've found that works against J-10s.

Re: Jets: Split-S maneuver
Metallica is quite correct. JSF one strenght over J10 is quick response to controls, with J10 actually having a delay which is quite long. Whatever you do, you have 2 objectives, try to get the situation to close combat, and then scissor to "shake" the chase up, when youve done that, proper evasions, such as split S series or whatnot come into the game.

Re: Jets: Split-S maneuver
I have found these tatics won't work in BF2...
If you are in JSF, and hear a missile lock (not a firm lock yet, quickly fly vertical w/ your AF to 600-800ft).
J-10 will have trouble chasing you.................
I tried that a few times and it works.
But half of the time, I stalled out of the boundaries...
