With BF2142 coming soon, can we expect BF2 to drop dead upon its release? I mean, I've seen each iteration of the series plummet in popularity upon release of the next title. It's kind of hard to convince myself to buy these booster packs, when I know fully well that it will be money poorly spent upon BF2142's release.

I dropped BFV immediately upon the release of BF2 .. but BFV wasn't really that great of a game

week 1 of bf2142 release: major drop in players of bf2
week 2 of bf2142: forums clogged with complaints
week 3 of bf2142: patch 1.1 release for bf2142 to fix the "minor" problems found with the game that were "unexpected"
week 3.5 of bf2142: community further upset by the patch as some new feature was added, 2 more were taken away, and frame rate has dropped at least 50 for every player
week 4 of bf2142: People whine about the game, complaining this and that are exploits, yell at EA, cuss at them, curse them to h3ll, and so forth
week 5 of bf2142: patch 1.11 released for bf2142 to meet the demands of the community (actually the .01% of the people complained, not the real community)
week 5.5 of bf2142: game play and crashing even worse, new hover boards are introduced with the patch that let players surf and do stunts down handrails. Community wonders why such a feature was added
week 6 of 2142: BF2 servers start to become more populated
By week 10 of bf2142: equal number of players playing both games, as both have techincal problems never solved and both have poor communities that yell and scream and whine.
Finally...by week 20 of bf2142, Battlefield Time travelers annouced, fight in prehistoric times, then zap to the future battlefields of the Earth's moon in the Clegnorph wars, then zap back to the year 1964 and fight a fake war against the Soviets posing as American soldiers....Then finally zap back to pre-existance and fight God himself on the galactic battlefield of nothingness...
week 21...moron community thrilled at news of new battlefield game...

look at desert combat for bf1942. that mod came out in 2001 and people are still playing it.
the question is will ranked go away? probably not - gamespy has a lot to earn by just keeping a rusty ol' database around.Comment

Upon the release of BFV I didn't stop playing BF1942 at all. I played 42 and it's mods up to the release of BF2. I have a feeling this will be a similar situation.
