Those who advocate silence on this website about the subject of BF2 cheats and glitches are, unintentionally, acting in collusion with the cheaters and aiding them. It seems that those who run this site have a (misguided) sense of duty to the community that manifests itself as censorship of new information about the cheaters who threaten us, which means that we are only setting ourselves up as new victims of the cheaters.
Case in point: the Vodnik/Hotel cheat on Karkand. If we know about it and how it works, then we can implement counter measures. One easy idea is to blow up the Vods dropped there, then avoid the area altogether, leaving the cheaters locked inside the hotel with nothing to shoot and no exit, but I’m sure others will come up with much better ideas. The point is: we need to know about these things to fight against them.
People will flame away in this thread and say “Oh no, don’t talk about it!” but that will be a mistake. You’re acting like a bunch of ostriches with your heads in the sand: you ignore the problem in the hopes that it will not grow, and you condemn those of us who don’t have your knowledge of what the latest glitches and cheats are, to become the victims of those who do.
Instead, we should all be doing exactly the opposite of being silent about cheats and glitches and other problems in the game, especially on a public forum like this. We should be shouting the news from the rooftops: New glitch found & here’s how to avoid it! New hack suspected – avoid this server/player/clan/building!
Rather than colluding in silence with the cheaters by ensuring them a steady flow of ignorant victims, we should be sharing our information, trading our war stories, telling our fellow gamers about what’s happening & what the latest exploits are, so that we can defend ourselves from them!
Yes, people have and always will whine about imaginary cheats, but that’s the background noise we have to sift through, that’s the price of being informed about the real threats. This site’s apparent policy about being silent about cheats and hacks is not making them go away, it is not lessening the problem one bit, because bad people will always find new ways to do bad things.
For example: Google “BF2 cheats” or “BF2 hax” or “Battlefield hacks” and you will get tens of thousands of hits, many amazingly detailed. There are whole sites that are like online shopping malls selling packages of cheats, screen shots and detailed info about how they work… take your pick, $20 or $30 via PayPal and boom - you’re the insta-leet guy who sees through walls and whose enemies all show up in dayglow yellow.
If you don’t want to risk getting nailed by PB, just read about the dozens of glitches that people have found on every map, there are plenty of sites that talk about them in great detail. And if you really want to step through Alice’s Looking Glass, contact any of the people running these sites, and you will discover a whole new world of custom hacks that PB has never, and will never detect, because all they sell to the pubbers is the junk they stopped using themselves, 6 months ago.
I realize that I’ve been long-winded, but my point is simple: glitches & exploits, as well as outright cheats and hacks, are a threat to the average player’s fun with the game, they are not something that will make the average player cheat himself. The knowledge of how crimes are committed does not make good people into criminals, but it does help them avoid becoming victims.
Those of us who play on the up-and-up need to know as much about those who don’t as possible, so that we can avoid getting abused by the glitchers, hackers, and cheaters out there who are always, and I mean always, developing some new clever trick to gain an unfair advantage over the rest of us.
I’m not saying “fight fire with fire”, but I am saying “fight fire with knowledge”. If we know what they’re doing, we can counter it. If we keep each other in the dark, we are just sheep being led to the slaughter by our own communal fear of sharing the truth about these threats to our game.
