Have a look at the top 10 players on bf2s. Check out their time on Karkand. Most of them spend ten times more time playing Karkand than any other map. Only two of them don't play it more than any other map and for those it's their second most played.
That pretty well says it all. Some people love it because it's a fun map (me included) but to most it appears to be nothing more than a ranking system.
