Ability to run bf2 on two different patches

I've heard around that it's possible to have two different patches installed making it easy to switch between them. I'm going through old clan demos to put together a video but I'm finding it annoying to have to keep uninstalling/reinstalling to get back to an older patch version so I can watch them.

I was just curious as to if anyone has had any experience with trying this. Maybe having two seperate installs of battlefield 2 or something, I don't know. Any information about this subject would be greatly appreciated. :)

That's basically it. Just install the game, patch to 1.22 for example, then copy the folder and rename to something like BF2-1.22, then patch your original install to 1.3. Then copy your BF2 shortcut and change the path from Battlefield 2\bf2.exe to BF2-1.22\bf2.exe. Then you can play either version. The one situation where this won't work is having patch 1.00-1.02 and patch 1.03-1.30 and trying to play online. The format of the CD key in the registry changed in 1.03 so earlier versions won't recognize it after you install 1.03+.

Two different directories is my guess. Should work with no problems.

something i had before, when i updated from 1.21 to 1.22, i had a copy of bf2.exe that was left as 1.21, so when i used my altered shortcut to run in high priority, it linked to the 1.21 version and seemed to work in 1.21, not 1.22, like the main bf2.exe would. it seems that if you incremental patch upwards, or maybe you have to say withing the same .x number, you can run the old version with an old executable. someone should look into it.

Yes, this worked for me and a lot of others in my clan. Simply wholesale copy the BF2 folder, and rename it to whatever you want. This will be v1.22.

Then patch the original BF2 folder to 1.3, and this will be 1.3. The link on your desktop will link to 1.3.

yes it works fine, I have done this for every patch thus far, you need to have the old versions just so you can watch the demo's.

i might be out of the loop but what demos are you talking about. Should i do the directroy copy just to watch them? are they that good?

You may experience issues with shaders cache so delete it everytime you switch to another version. I found it impossible to run 1.22 with 1.3's shaders. Just remove them (you know my docs/bf2/mods...)
