jumping ping

heya

whenever i play bf2 i stick to UK servers, so my ping is usually below 30, but whatever server i play on, every so often, it quickly freezes and im pointing into the floor, or driven of a cliff. a lot of the time, i look at my ping after this and its up at 800 or something like that. this seems to be happening more now hna ever and is so annoying

ive got broadbanmd form telewest, and im connected via a 100mb/s router, with 1 other work computer and my xbox360 also connected.

does anybody know how i can stop this lag? i think it might be my router? anybody?

hmm would turning off F-secure(firewall, antivirus etc.) help? must be taking up lotsa bandwidth

i close my anti-virus so it stops doing its scans/updates if your connected to a router (your hardware firewall) why do you have a personal firewall except SP2

Try running pingplotter (www.pingplotter.com) and do a few traces to various big name sites like Google and to some BF2 servers.

Yeah, i was using a pingtracker, but thnx, that ones much better

the ping is around 20, but yup, it jumps waaaay up every so often.

Where does the latency spike occur? Which hop/IP address?

See if there is contact information and send off an e-mail advising them of the problem.

hmm a lot of them seem to have their moments. blueyonder/telewest seem to be causing the spikes, as my router ping is waay down.
