CTD after join server

Hey,

i have read all the posts about games crashing to the desktop after u press join game. well mines crashing at join server not game.

I have just got the game, 2 days ago. Installed BF2 and downloaded the patch 1.3 full directly from EA GAMES Themselves off the official site.

Single player works perfectly, online games crash straight away after i press Join Server, no matter the server.

The other threads about the topic dont fix the issue, i know its probably going to be wait until 1.31 but thats just not right, i just bought the game and cant play it.

Its not faulty hardware as i can run games such as DODS with 90fps and Fear with no issues on everything maximum.

Is there a way around this?
I tried making a question to EA Support but they have yet to replied after a day and a half.

I know its not right, but you probably will have to wait till 1.31. Otherwise try the following, any of them can be known to solve your problem:
-Full BF2 reinstall with patches
-Virus/spyware scan
-Windows XP reinstall
-Turning off anything at all running the the background that is not critical
-Check latest drivers

Sorry dude, its a great game when it runs, but at the same time its extremely buggy and frustrating, just comes with the territory I'm afraid. It even hurts more when every other game you have runs fine, I know.

thank you very much for your speedy reply.

i will try a full reinstall of the game and patch.
i just completed a full virus scan and spyware scan, nothing came up.
I also did a disk cleanup and defrag as well.

the reinstall XP will have to wait till very last, thats just a pain :P.

next time i load the game up i will try turning off teamspeak/x-fire as they are the only things i run in the background.

latest drivers, two days ago i downloaded the 6.5 for catlyst (video)

i will post back with hopefully happy results lol, in the mean time :P i have to listen to my mates on teamspeak yelling about how good the game is lol

OK. One other thing, try installing just patch 1.22, and see if you can connect to online games (there are servers around running it). If you can, it means it really is a patch issue and nothing with you machine specifically, and to wait for 1.31 or whatever they want to call it.

hey thanks for the suggestions

what i did in order to fix my game.

1. Disk Cleanup
2. Defrag
3. Uninstall BF2
4. Restart
5. Install BF2
6. Restart
7. Disc cleanup again
8. Install Patch
9. Restart
10. Update punkbuster using the pbsetup.exe
11. Load game, login, find server
12. When join game appears i pressed Escape instead of pressing join game (not sure if it makes a difference)

BTW i closed every single background application i had open while running BF2, im testing it now with x-fire and teamspeak open.
