    Weird new FPS problem

I posted on this a while back but have some new info on it

Basically my problem is when I am in a game my FPS holds constant at 15 FPS. I have tried changing the resolution, different quality settings, resolutions, AA on/off and there is no change (FPS is ALWAYS 15 on all settings).

The strange part is when I play single player my FPS is anywhere from 70-90 on almost all high settings and AA 2x.

I have tried all the common solutions - clean install of game and full patch (even tried incrimentals), cleared the cache, defraged hdd, got newest drivers for graphics card (the problem started before i updated them, and updating them had no effect).

My computer specs are not really the issue here but if people are curious

All I can think of is making sure verticle sync is off in your drivers.

      Re: Weird new FPS problem

one thought I was having was that I also recently updated my drivers for my flat panel display (Dell 2005FW i think, im not near it). I was thinking maybe playing on servers that force resolution plus an issue with the driver might be causing the problem and would explain why the problem only occurs in multiplayer games.

Before the monitor said Dell 2005FW or whatever and had (analog) next to it, now that i was messing with it it just changed to plug and play monitor. The odd thing is when i try to get the newest drivers from dell, they arent reconized and dont update...hmmm

so does anyone think the display adapter thing sounds right? would that cause my FPS to hold at a constant 15 no matter what the qual. settings.

I'm in the same EXACT predicament. When you figure it out, please let me know. Right now, I can't play.

        I've got a Dell XPS Gen 2 w/ 2GB and GeForce Go 6800 Ultra w/256mb.

        Yes....my BF2 likes 15 fps....not 16, not 14. No, it likes to run at 15 fps.

Probably the same problem almost everyone is having. Dice Killed Bf2 to make people buy 2142.

you should get 50-70 fps with your rig
            at the right settings
            to make sure
out ALL settings on LOW or OFF
            even draw distance at 75%
            then see what you get
            (maybe up to 100 fps)

My old 6800GT with 2 gigs of ram (yes I know he only has 1gb) got 45-50fps on average with everything on high.

I know I should get 50-70 fps on my rig, if you read my post you would have seen that when i play Single Player my FPS is up around 70-90, but when i play multiplayer (any size map) it remains constant at 15

i have sort of an unrelarted side question. Is there anyway that BF2 will tell you your FPS. I like FRAPS but i want to see how much it slows me down

well - that is impossible (unless you mean on foot looking at the sky)
                        what resolution?
                        what level of AA?
                        what level of shadows?

most of our clan has graphics cards waaaaaaaaay better than you
and only the 7900gtx has EVERYTHING On high
                        he gets 100fps

we all get 50-80 with shadows and AA off
or less resoltiuon and AA 2x

This is before the patches obviously. Karkand in sparse fighting areas I'd get 70fps, and it'd never drop below 30 on any map with 64 players in a confined space. That was with everything on high, as stated, so I think you can figure out what the settings were on for my 6800GT.

Your clan must be running SLi, because the only cards "waaaaaay better" than mine are the 7900GTX and X1900 series. I used to get 70-90fps with drops into the 50's between November (when I got my 7800GT) and February when the Frame rate plunged. Now I get an average of 30-35 as per Rivatuner. I get 60fps average on FEAR with absolutely everything turned up, and I get hardly any slowdown in Oblivion.

yes, while playing - in the console type: renderer.drawfps1
if you forget the command type render and hit tab a couple times and it will auto complete the command.

fyi: this thread is also just like the 15fps thread.

right my FPS problem has nothing to do with my hardware situation, FPS remain stable (the only variation is it might go to 15.1 or 15.2) no matter what settings (low medium and high, also adjusted them individually including resolution and refresh rate AND messed with sound quality etc.)

My internet connection is a hard FiOS (fiber optic) line, no wireless involved.

as for the internet connection being the only issue, I wanted to restate my hypothesis that maybe is has something to do with servers forcing a resolution and bad drivers for my monitor.

Also to add another symptom to my problem, when viewing the internet games (i.e. when you click the multiplayer tab) and my game is updating servers

Also to add another symptom to my problems, when viewing the internet games (i.e. when you click the multiplayer tab) and my game is updating servers it goes very slow and goes in "incriments" (on my laptop it runs up very fast, like the tenth of a second display on a watch, but now on the desktop with the problem it does up in chucks like 22....66...100...etc). While it is updating the servers pretty slowly (slower then it should for Fiber Optic) that background activity (the little video with stuff driving around) is moving along with it. For example when it updates from 22 and jumps to 66, while it is "inbetween chunks" the picture in the background is frozen and when it updates the video will move a frame.

If that is hard to understand ill try to explain better if you ask, I just realllly need a solution to this problem.
