Game crashes on start-up, this has nothing to do with the resolution

Hello, I've been playing battlefield 2 for a while now, but since a few days, everytime I try to start it up, the screen turns to black and then it goes back to my desktop, I've allready read some other treads about this, and they all suggested this had something to do with the resolution, but I;ve tried everything they suggested and nothing worked. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, that would help a lot, thanks

(I allready tried deleting the game and then reinstalling it, but that didn't help)

as per my earlier email...I have found stability by switching fastwrites off on the vidoe card. Read my earlier posting. this could be a lead. Truth is though, your vid card may be at its wits end by the sound of it...try borrowing a friend's and see if you can load with that, or look for the latest vid drivers...also try unistalling the whole game and reinstalling with the new single patch..>Good luck..I share your frustration with this flakey game.

Yeah, i have to start the game 2 times to get it to load. The first time always crashes. Also, my game freezes after 2 hours or so. I dont know if this last thing is patch related, but maybe I need more memory. I have a good comp, SLI dual 6800's, 2 gigs of ram (probably wanting alittle more), great sound card, good internet connection. But it really ****es me off when the game shutsdown in the middle, or just freezes. (even worse when if freezes!)

I have the same; and it only started since yesterday. I played BF2 well for +- 3 months without any problem. Till yesterday, when I joined a server and pressed 'play game' my first and only CTD has arrived. And since then I only have connection losts/errors when I try to play a game (mostly it happens after +- 5 a 10 minutes).. very strange
And I'm sure my PC isn't the source of this madness; (2600Mhz, 2GIG Ram, Geforce6 and a pro soundcard)

                aenema,
1 st of all what a loverly name:laugh:

                2st.......its the patch......
3rd .....then you will atleast need 2 gigs of ram to run it at reas' settings

i have a 3gig p4 with 2.5 gig of ram running a agp 9600xt and up untill this patch my bf2+sp forces run very well. but since 1.3 it died alot.

got some extra stability by doing a manaul punkpuster update.

                  Try manually updating your punkbuster.

Worked for me and several people I play with.
