MatDef, is that just what the game looks like in general or do you have HD or something on, graphics looks pretty good and different from HL2, maybe its your computer (since I know you have a good comp).

Those aren't my pics, but it looks just as good. They did some tweaking for hl2 ep1, and added more hi res textures (especially on alyx and the other characters) and full hdr for the entire game. Luckily enough, they also found a way to let us nvidia users get full hdr and aa. For those who don't believe me, check this out:

it looks exactly like that if you have everything on high.

and the people at VALVe are all my heros for finding a way to make AA and HDR compatible, PLUS the HDR looks much better than most games IMO.

When I complete half life 2 episode 1 and the credits finish
the game shuts down and goes back to my desktop. Am I missing a part of the ending?

That's because Valve does not do HDR in the traditional method. I don't exactly remember how they do it, something to do with the textures I think, but its an incredibly well done trick that ends up looking like full HDR. When Lost Coast and DOD:S came out I was really impressed that their HDR was just as good as Far Cry's true HDR. The only noticeable difference between the two is that you do not get the lens flare effects that you see in Far Cry. Which technically makes Valve's HDR more realistic in that they emulate your eye rather than a camera.
