Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
Is it possible ot create a mod that has its own mod directory but references the map info from the original BF2 or Xpack directories? If so, can anyone explain who this is done, or point me in the direction of a mod that already does this so I can use it as an exampe?
Re: Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
If you copy the map folder with only the info subfolder and not the zip files the game will automatically read those files from the vanilla game map folders. You don't need to change any pointers (like you do with the Archives.con files).
Re: Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
Thanks, that's very helpful. It does work for the stock BF2 maps. However, when I try to do it for SF maps I get a crash. Do you know of some way to include those as well? Basically I'm trying to create a mod that includes all the original and SF maps (and also a custom game mode).
Re: Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
Well, it works for custom maps so I suspect your problem is that the SF maps won't work in vanilla BF2 or that they won't work in the mod. If you put the SF maps in the vanilla levels folder do they work when running SF after copying the info folders?
Re: Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
It seems it works fine if I copy all the contents of the SF expansion and then only the info folder for the BF2 maps. However, I'm now having a problem with my dedicated server. I've copied all the BF2 maps to the SF folder on my linux dedicated server and the server seems to start fine. I've also copied the BF2 maps to my SF folder and I can start a listen server on my computer just fine, using any of the maps. However, if I run my Linux server with a BF2 map and then try to connect to it with my computer I'm told I don't have the map. Does that ring a bell?
Re: Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
Unfortunately I don't have SF and haven't used the standalone server yet so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Have you tried it with the full maps copied to the SF folder rather than just the info folders?
Re: Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
Yes, I tried that, and while it works on a listen server, it doesn't seem to work on my linux dedicated server. Do you know of any mods that have combined the two?
Re: Example of a mod that doesn't include all the maps?
I assume you can run an unmodified SF linux server with un-renamed SF maps and that works, correct?
Make sure you don't have any .md5 files in your server's copied/renamed map folders. While I believe it is possible to regenerate the .md5s for renamed/modded maps it's easier to just remove them. I wouldn't expect this to be a problem for using unmodded vanilla maps in SF but it could be.
