video settings keep switching back to medium and a lower resolution help!

i had to reformatt my pc and i backed up the profiles folder in mydocuments/battlefield2 so i dont have to change my controls and settings back. Then when i pasted them back it was readonly.

i changed my video settings to high and clicked apply with a different res. then when i open BF2 again and log in the video settings go back to medium. is this because the files are now read only? and can i just delete the video file then will bf2 create a new one when i select the high option?

also which file is the video settings one and in which folder?

soz its a bit confusing can any one help?

go to
mydocuments/bF2/Profiles/ DELETE 0001 folder if you have 1 account.
then start bf2 set your settings hit apply.
Quit bf2 go to mydocuments/bf2/profiles/0001 folder should be there open video.con and see your setting (do not change anything)
Then start bf2 again-greate MP game
This must work i have exact problem long time ago

will this delete my controls aswell ?or just vid settings?

can i just delete the video.con in there now and then it will make a new one yea?

I have noticed that the video settings just readjust themselves quite often with the 1.3 patch.

A few nights ago I had played for about 3 hours on one server when a map that we had already played started to load up and all of a sudden my video was optimizing again. When I got into the map I was lagging like mad as several settings had changed. I disconnected and checked my video settings in the options screen. Everything was set correctly in the settings but ingame did not reflect these settings.

I was playing SF at the time when this happened. I quit the game and checked my settings in the "My Documents" folder and under the basic BF2 cache, I had a second cache now, but still only one in the xpack cache. I deleted the new folder and went back into the game and all was well.

This has happened a lot since the patch. The wierd part is that when this happens, what you see ingame is not what the video.con file actually says it should be. So something is wrong with the shader optimizer with the 1.3 patch.

Also, I have tested this with 3 version of the ATI drivers, all do the same. I have an ATI x800xl 256mb agp card.

My settings got reset when I installed 1.3 but that's all I've noticed. I did try putting my anti-aliasing down to off for performance and then it wouldn't let me set it back to 2x. Every time the game restarted it just put it back to off. I had to go into the config file (video.con) and set it manually to get the change to stick.
