Patches have screwed up my game

I just installed battlefield 2 and special forces. I then installed 1.3 full patch that i got from the EA site. I click the icon to load up the game and the splash image comes up and then the screen flashes between my desktop and a black screen for a few seconds. It then cuts to my desktop and the game is no longer running in the processor list. Whats going on? Is it my video card thats not compatible? It all works fine until i install the patches.

    AMD 64 3500+
    ATI Radeon X800 (256mb)
    3GB DDR Ram

Did you use any kind of *****, that alters or replaces the bf2.exe file? If so patching will skip this file, or fail to path. Result is that game won't start as the .exe is using old version.

Same thing happens if you renamed the bf2.exe file.

Have you tried deleting your Profiles dir in ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\
Then profile is deleted but you can use the retrieve option at logon screen to retrieve your login etc. Then it will start up with BF2 default setttings.

Folder might be other that 0001 if you have more that one multiplayer profile or a singleplayer profile.

The 3 GB RAM you have, are they all at the same timing and speeds? If not try removing modules so ýou only use similar modules. This is to rule out different types of RAM modules cause problems.

Have you installed latest drivers for chipset, video and audio. Not just the one that came with the install CDs for your hardware, but latest available from the websites of the manufacturers of your hardware.

You would be surprised how much relevant information ppl leave out when they ask for help, so the more I ask the easier it is for me to troubleshoot the basic causes, e.g. *****.

You said the game worked fine without the patches, so thought you had had it up and running, and with a profile.

Have you got and secondary display devices enabled? Go into your ATI CCC or CP and make sure that they are disabled, to see if that could be it. Mine doesn't run with TV-OUT enabled, probably because game and TV run at differenet Hz in my current configuration.

Are you using old style Control Panel or the new Catalyst Control Center?

Here's how you look withóut use of ATI driver settings. Open the Display control panel, right-click on desktop and properties. Then select Settings tab.

There should be two screens, one labled 1 and the other 2. Click on 2 and make sure it hasn't selected the option, that extend the desktop onto the second display.

It can also be enabled from the CP or CCC but easier to expalin when I know which one you use. Until then look here: http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html

Okay. Then that rules out that.

Have you installed the drivers on top, of a previous installation, without first uninstalling old ones?

If so try uninstalling drivers and installing this way:
Virus888 merupakan agen slot deposit qris minimal 10000 rupiah tanpa potongan apapun untuk bermain slot bet kecil 200 perak pada seluruh jenis provider slot gacor pasti gampang menang maxwin tahun ini 2026.

You can also try using another Windows account and run the game from there.
Only catch is the fact that the game's cd-key is encrypted with information from the account you pathced in and can only be used for multiplayer in that Windows account. A reinstall in the new Windows account would be needed if playing online.

That doesn't stop you from trying starting the game from another Windows account though. So try and create a new Windows Administrator account and start the game from there.

                    Just use latest one available.

I use OmegaDrive's version of Catalyst, they are tweaked and bundled with software: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ and they use the old style Control Panel. IMO it is better, that the new CCC.

There's nothing like a fresh installation of Windows.

Let us know if it works afterwards.

Hi, JP could you please give me your motherboard name and model, video card details and ram type. This will help me work a few things out. Will update soon about my re install of windows and bf2

Ok installed Battlefield2 and then Special Forces and patched it to 1.3 using the full patch. I still get the same problem. This must mean it has a hardware problem. I am using the K8N Neo4 Motherboard, Radeon X800 Graphics Card.
