Red Devil Cleaned out your BF2 cache?

Yes recleaned out thos files and another previously renamed file.

After clean removal and reinstall of BF-2 and SF then removing memory then reinstalling 1 stick then patching then defragging then rebooting then cleaning out ALL BF-2 CACHE files MY system now works well. Dont forget the Cache files for SF.

My files were located in the BF-2/MODs folder.

Guys thanks for the help and suggestions...

BF2 is one buggy-assed game, ain't it? I'm suprised we don't have to pat our heads while rubbing our tummies to install the darn thing!:p

Yep!!! And that's exactly the problem I'm having. My system won't even POST if I pull the other stick of RAM.

Full 1.3 patch fails during install. After which i run BF2 & recieve error:
        mods/bf2/shaders/lightning.fx not found.

reinstalled BF2 & tried to patch twice using various patch sources:
        ea.com
        strategyinformer.com

about to try once more using totalbf2.com

I have yet to try the "pat our heads while rubbing our tummies" trick.

Awesome, I just noticed It F**cked up my SF install as well. I Guess I'll be reinstalling that too... sweet, I love spending all my free time troubleshooting poorly coded software.

I was doing the manual install but there is no patch.exe
        see attached images

Perhaps that explains why someone just deleted this out of the faqs on this site!?!?!

The section below WAS on this page http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg...?p_faqid=10670

That is until about 11:45am PST when it was gone!?!? WTF???

If the issue continues to manifest, you can manually install the patch files.

        1.
Run the 1.3 patch installer again and select the language.
        2.
Click Next, and then stop on the 'Welcome to the InstallShield
Wizard for Battlefield 2 Patch v1.3' screen.
        3.
Click on Start and then Run.
        4.
Type %temp% in the Run box and hit Enter.
        5.
Click on View at the top of the window and choose Arrange Icons By
        and then Modified.
        6.
Scroll to the end of the list. The last folder icon should have an
alpha-numeric code for the name such as
{3D3B4B03-9974-4B03-B7B2-FAB1919C8E3D}. This code name is randomly
generated per system, but should be the last folder listed.
        7.
        Open this folder.
        8.
There should be another alpha-numeric named folder inside. Open
        this folder.
        9.
Click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Select All.
        10.
Click on Edit again and choose Copy.
        11.
Close all open windows except for the installer.
        12.
Open My Computer and navigate to the game folder.
        *
        By default this is C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2.
        13.
Once in the Battlefield 2 folder, right-click on an empty space in
the window and choose Paste. This should copy the patch files to
        the game folder.
        14.
Double-click on the Patch.exe file (the icon for this file looks
like a window). This should be one of the files copied over.
        15.
This will prompt the files to update. When it completes patching,
you may close the installer widow.

You should now be patched to version 1.3.

I've got about 9 gigs of free space, so the 3 gigs required isn't the problem.

Of course your system will not even post with all your memory removed. Simply install 1 stick then re patch.

"Other" Being 1 of 2, it's dual channel, matched RAM. If I pull one it leaves one!!!

These systems need at least 1 matched pair (i.e. 2 sticks) to boot!!!

I Think however it's a corrupt cd, I talked retailer into allowing exchange.

During game install there's a MD5 checksum error but install seemed to work anyway.
