New to BF2 very frustrated.

I just bought BF2 installed it and d/l the 430+MB patch and installed that. I launched BF2 filled in an account and logged in, it took fricken 15minutes to contact account server.. What the hell is with these freaking server menus
SLOW SLOW SLOW LAG LAG LAG WTF?!?!?!?!?!

Does everyone sit there for like 10 mins trying to sift through servers? Cant scroll through smoothly, it has 3 seconds of lag. Then I finally click on one and it SITS THERE FOR LIKE 5 freaking minutes before it connects to the server.

I don't possibly see how this could be a normal occurance for everyone or BF2 wouldn't be this popular. I get in the game and I ping sub 20ms..

Bah can someone explain to me why it takes a friggen half hour to get into one server?

There are issues with the BF2 server menu but I have never experienced anything as bad as you have described. What are your system specs?

Every morning i walk past the same traffic jam with the same people in it, sometimes i smile or nod at those that make eye contact but the last thing i shall ever do is try to understand why they sit there every day.

How much RAM do you have?

Internet connection?

Hard-drive? (defragged?)

System specs:

Pentium 4 3.4GHZ
2GB's DDR400 PC3200 Ram
160GB Sata HD fresh XP install defragged
Video Card EVGA 7800GS

Internet:
Dedicated bandwidth 7mb's download 7mb's upload. Pings on line quality testing from DSLReports show 12ms Eastern/15ms Midwest/25ms Western for averages with no packet loss.

Yet I can't run BF2 with my specs. I run CS:S/HL2/Q4 without any problems high FPS and no lag.

Sorry if I was a little upset in previous post, but I'm frustrated with this. Tons and tons of people play BF2 and I have problems like this.. UDP's have been checked thru my ISP and are open, as are they on my router.

Well your rig can definitly handle BF2...I would posibly try and reinstall the game and patch and see if that fixes your problem....also make sure all of your drivers are up to date.

Reinstalled everything including the full patch and its still the same.. tons of menu lag and stall time. Just ran oblivion at 85fps with grass on full and distances maxed

Not fair, BF2 looks so fun.

Welcome to BF2. Try adjusting your rdivers. You may have to roll them back or install newer ones. BF2 is really picky it seems with certain videocards and certain drivers. The game was even more fun when it was in the demo stage. I miss those days...

Hmm your system should handle BF2 no sweat. Like it was said BF2 is picky about vid drivers. Some are better than others.

Also a freshly defragged system makes a big difference. The BF2 browser is complete crap unfortunately and 1.3 made it worse.

After you have done your vid settings you should clear out the older shaders. Here's how to do that. Go to this folder \My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache delete all the folders inside of the cache folder. When you start up BF2 and loading into the map for the 1st time it will take a long time. After that it should be a lot faster.

BF2 does take a while to load into a map though with the verifying client data but the 2gig of ram you have should mean your 1 of the 1st into the game.

Turn all your graphic settings to low or med first, then check the filter box to narrow servers. BF2 will take time to load after a fresh installation. The server menu has always been like that, it's not smooth, use the scroll bar before clicking on servers. Once you get the right settings, you'll forget the menu, and start btchn about airpower :) Have fun!
