"Black Dot" artifacts - Only affecting BF2 game?

I've been experiencing artifacts appearing as numerous black dots the size of in game bullet holes on the sky and occasionaly on walls/floors. I've been able to reduce this effect to a large degree but it involves underclocking my Video RAM by nearly 20%.

Is there something within this game that causes it to run hotter than every other game I've played? I've never experienced this with HalfLife 2, Doom3, FarCry, even with a mild overclock of 10% or more. Temps are higher when OC'd (avg 72C) and I still dont see artifacts of any kind. After running 3DMark03 for 30min OC'd @ 530/1090 still no artifacts.

What's even stranger is that my GPU temps are well within safe ranges when playing BF2 at stock 500/1000 - 67C avg (absolute max of 72).

    Omega Drivers - 6.5 catalyst
    x800xt AIW
    500 gpu / 815 vram (1000 is stock)
    GPU 65C
    IntelP4 3.0C
    2GB Dual Channel

For a game that rarely gives me FPS above 35, it's ****ing me off that I have to underclock my card to remove artifacts when heat doesn't seem to be the issue.

Any thoughts on what it might be?

bf2 tends to artifact before any other game, but yes that is very odd. hmmm... 72 isnt TOO high. so at stock settings it "artifacts"? What drivers are you using?

At stock settings it artifacts. I have to underclock my video ram by ~20% before it clears up. Running latest 6.5 catalyst Omega drivers.

The strange thing is that I overclock for all other games, and overclocking 3dMark doesnt exhibit any strange textures
