1.3 or my ISP?

Since 1.3 came out I have been one of the lucky ones who hasnt had any issues, then last night happened.

I logged into the game, changed some video settings and joined a server, 20 seconds into the game I get the "There is a problem with your connection" message and I was booted to the main menu.

I quickly looked at my modem and the activity lights were blinking very slow and I was booted off of Ventrilo.

I am immediately able to connect to another server and I last a little longer this time but eventually I get the same message.

Through the course of the evening I connected to about 5 servers, got connection issue messages on all 5 and gave up for the night...In a couple cases I was able to play for 45 minutes or more... and others it was less than a minute.

Considering that before last night I hadnt had any issues with 1.3, do you think it could be related to the video settings I changed? Or could it be that my ISP flaked out?

Im looking for opinions on the source of my problems... I cant imagine it was 1.3 because of the fact that these problems just cropped up last night... is it possible?

Get ready for it. Atleast one TBF2 Super Moderator is going to reply here explaining to you that your computer must have a Virus, or is unstable for some unknown reason. Do yourself a Favour, get your reformat disks ready, because unless it was a Bad night for your ISP, reformat is your best choice.
Since the release of BF2, having to uninstall/reinstall/possibly reformat CDrive with every patch has become the norm, I hope other Game makers don't follow this route.

Wish I could be more help, but I thought I would atleast give you the heads up.

Oh..and recommending a reformat is the best choice

First thing I would do is download pingplotter from www.pingplotter.com and start doing some traceroutes. Do some traces to big name sites like google.com and microsoft.com and then do a few traces to some BF2 game servers.

You will be given a graphical representation of the traffic between you and those servers and any latency spikes or sudden packet loss will show you were the problem is.

Contact your ISP if the problem is within your ISP's network or the NOC (network operations center) of the machine in question.

Whatever you do, don't reformat at this point

There's no way I would reformat because of a network issue that cropped up in the middle of nowhere, not as a first resort anyhow.

i got hte same thing. I called my ISP and they told me that they found nothing wrong. I did virus scan, spyware scan found nothing. I just recently go this problem when 1.3 was installed.

Let me clarify, are you still on Vent? Because I had a problem where I'd disconnect, and then keep disconnected at a more constant rate as time passes by until it's unplayable (try earning a veteran badge when 1/3 of the time you're connecting! Earned Vet Spec ops and Assault like that!). I found a reboot resolved the problem immedietly. Def. a 1.3 problem if it's BF2 only.
