Thx Cybercrow for explanation on memory leak. First I'd heard of that issue.
I'm definitely curious what's going on with 1.3.
Will EA release another hotfix ?
Not anxious to remove / reinstall / full instead of incremental upgrade
blah blah blah.
Merely want game to run as well as did under 1.22.

Geez Cybercrow you really have a bug up your ass don't you. Got your period this week have you? Do you really think EA would confirm this? Do EA confirm anything? These guys tested this out on all their different servers with 3 different guys and everytime they joined, clicked a spawn point then clicked ok the server crashed. The thing they had in common was they all downloaded the full patch from EA downloader.Or is it just some majical coincidence? When they downloaded the patch from filefront these guys would no longer crash the server. Is it so hard to believe that possibly a corrupt client install could crash a server?

I believe that trinity have passed this info onto EA.

I'm not saying this is the only thing crashing servers, the code is buggy as. We have always had server crashes, just nowhere near what its like now. This is just something to try for those that downloaded the full patch from EA downloader and gives those people a heads up about this situation these guys experienced.

So you're saying we need every player to reinstall and usee a good non-corrupt version of the full 1.3 patch? Well how the hell are we (the server admins, clan members, community) going to get everyone to do that?

This needs some sort-of annoucement from EA. BUT THAT IS NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Your comments are falling on deaf ears guys, I feel the same way.

This is such a boring rehash......why not read the forums for the past two weeks, we've seen/heard it all.

Some of us dont have problems at all. Imagine that.

The last 2 patches i have installed have been incremental, and oh boy they sure work fine for quite a few of us.

I've used a couple incremental patches myself and have yet to have a problem. However, I've seen incrementals go south for people. I've also seen re-applying the full patch over a corrupted BF2 solve problems. It's worth pointing out to folks.

This thread isn't about that, however.
This is about a possible corrupted version of the patch (maybe both full and incremental) that was distributed by EA.

It has yet to be proven, but it's worth taking heed. Repatching with the full version doesn't hurt so even if you're a little bit suspisious, it's worth trying. It might do nothing. It also might save you a lot of grief.

I tried the Incremental patch and now the full patch from EA,
sometimes it works and i can play for hours and other times it will crash as soon as you hit the Join button.There has to be something more to it then a bad file from EA becuase if it were a corrupt file it would crash all the time would it not?It's a great game ,but it can be a real pain sometimes.

EA needs to release a 1.31 patch immediately. They then need to require all trusted providers to update their servers immediately so as to force people with bad client installs into patching before they continue.

I fear there is a bigger problem though - Most people will just want to patch, but I personally know of somebody who first patched using 1.3 incremental, then the EA downloader patched it again to 1.3 - they were crashing the server. Then they patched using the full patch from a mirror - They continued to crash the server. They had to actually uninstall the game entirely - and then reinstall off of CD and apply the full 1.3 patch obtained from a mirror before they would stop crashing the server and getting crashes to desktop.

So even if EA releases a 1.31 patch, I'd be concerned that something corrupt on the client system prior to a new patch may cause even a 1.31 patch to crash a server unless EA identiies exactly what is corrupt on a client install and ensures that it is deleted/overwritten during the patch process.

I personally think that anybody having any sort of problem at this point with CTDs or their client crashing servers should totally uninstall, reinstall from CD, and then patch using the latest available full patch from a mirror.

I think any place distributing the full patch in the past is likely reliable now - including Filefront, or BF2 Full 1.3 Patch from EA FTP. I know there are other places that have it as well such as Full and Incremental 1.3 Patches from Branzone.

I personally believe that you should always patch with the full patch anyway - I always do and never have a problem. But I think with the 1.3 patch problem specifically, they are pointing it to being a problem with downloading/installing the patch from the EA Downloader. So I personally steered away from using the downloader and instead downloaded the patches manually from one of the sites above and installed it.
