If you downloaded the full 1.3 patch from EA downloader this may be of some interest to you and may also help with CTD, especially when joining a server.

We think we have figured out why the servers are crashing so much.....We had one of our members connect to our servers, tried this on 3 different servers.

Each time this member would go to spawn after joining the server, as soon as he hit "ok", the server would freeze up, and crash.

We repeated this 7 times on 3 of our ranked servers, and each time he crashed the server. Come to find out, 3 other of our players caused the same problem...AQnd the one thing they all had in common, was they downloaded the patch from the EA downloader.(full version).

After reinstalling their games and downloading the full patch from filefront. Also a big note....when they initially installed the first patch, they all received a corruption error, but the patch continued with installation without stopping.

So we believe te reason why servers are crashng is corrupt 1.3 client installations. Tested and proven.

Maybe you should try downloading the 1.3 full patch from elsewhere these guys got theirs from filefront. Even if its just to "possibly" stop the server you are connecting too from crashing, I'm sure server owners would appreciate any steps to try and stop the server crashes. You never know you "may" be the cause of the server crashing and this may be the cause of some peoples CTD when they hit the join button. Everything is worth a try at this stage.

Nice find. We are getting at least 4-5 crashes a day on our server.

One big problem is this is down to public users It is not something server admin can do anything about.

What a state of afairs. Dice really are going from bad to worse. Not only are they incapable of finding simple name tag bugs but they are introducing major crash issues. How the hell could they write sloppy code that could possibly allow a client app to crash the server. DAMN.

Where did they get their development team? Probably a bunch of Youth Training Scheme people.

Thanks for that, I downloaded the Full patch from the EA Downloader site last night, backed up all the stuff I wanted to keep to another hard drive, ready to do a fresh XP intall when I get back from work tonight.

I keep a very tight rig, but it's been over 12 months since the last clean XP install. I'm hoping this problem will dissapear by using the Full & not the Incremental.

I'll download the Filefront one aswell so I can try both *sigh*

why try both, just get it from filefront (or another reliable source, not EAdownloader.)

i downloaded the incremental from Gamershell & later that night the full patch from their but ive yet to patch the Full 1.3 version because i havent had any problems with the incremental yet lol

(must be how i treat my pc, get a good clean every 6months )

You could try getting it from:

It's about 1/3 of the way down the list, it also helps that they usually have pretty fast servers, sometimes hitting 700KB/s so that's where I'm going to try tonight.

yeah, im running the incremental and having no issues (except the connection problems last night that I suspect are ISP related)... so who knows.

My original patch installation was the full patch not from the EAD.

Besides, it really doesn't make much sense that one client's install can completely crash the server. I'd find it more believable that the servers, themselves, downloaded and installed the corrupt patches. If the patch from one source is in fact, corrupt, then all clients AND servers need to reinstall from a non-corrupt source.

Maybe we sould all DL that corrupted upgrade and crash as many servers as we can so they fix BF2? LOL :)

Tsk, tsk, shame on anyone who thought of using the EAD to get the full patch. You know better than that! There are so many mirrors to get it elsewhere, so you don't have to test your luck against the EAD.

We have been having daily, sometimes upwards of 3-4 times daily server crashes from Trinity since our server has been up and running. They got a little worse after the patch, but the fact is Trinity has some issues that are not related to the patch. We played on a few Trinity servers one night, and every single one of them crashed at one point, pre 1.3. I used the incremental from EAD and other than a CTD when first starting up, I have had no problems playing on many different servers.
