Fps: 15.0/66.7

Within 10 minutes of a 1.3 game (on any/every server), I'll arrive at 15.0/66.7 on the console. I just upgraded my DirectX from Microsoft. I'm running out of ideas.

So far, the only "fix" is to exit BF2 and come back in and enjoy about 5 min of a game. As soon as I get to 15.0/66.7, I can't just simply exit that server and join another one. The "new" server will begin at that pathetic frame rate.

Try deleting your cache and disabling vsync.

Tried both suggestions. That didn't work. But I found out some more info during experimentation.


1. I joined a game, found a quiet spot and just stayed there. No shooting. Effectively, no playing, but just sitting there. The FPS was super high (82/10).

2. Next game, same server, I found a quiet spot and stayed there for about 5 minutes, no shooting. Same results. Super high FPS.

3. Decided to "play". Got in a humvee and found some enemies. Fired off the machine gun. Nailed a few, but got killed. FPS now at 26/44.

4. Found a quiet spot, stayed there, FPS will NOT get better. It's "stuck" at this new FPS level. More playing makes it worse.


This is repeatable, though I wish it wasn't. This effectively means, no lag....unless you shoot.

I managed to recreate the this particular bug on my secondary machine.

How I did it:

-updated to v1.3
-changed from a HP 17" CRT to a Samsung 19" CRT without updating monitor drivers or deleting cache, or settings in BF2.
-as soon as I started playing around, FPS dropped to 15.0/66.7 exactly.

How I fixed it:
-downloaded latest Samsung drivers
-deleted ENTIRE My Documents\Battlefield 2 directory

I'll try to delete my entire My Documents\Battlefield 2 directory. That I can do. But I've got a Dell laptop, so I can't try the Samsung drivers thing. I've got an nVidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra. And I'm running the latest nVidia drivers for this thing (91.28). It's a decent card with 256Mb and I've got 2GB of memory. I should be ok. Last week, I was ok. Then I upgraded to 1.3 and all hell broke loose.

I'll give it a shot.

well...I deleted the entire My Documents\Battlefield 2 directory and I still have the same problems. This time I got to that point by getting into a helo, so my machine gun theory is out.

The worst part about this....it used to be fine. THEIR patch did this to me.

Class action lawsuit anyone?

I have had that similair problem, especially with the newest drivers from nvidia, using old 77.92 now and the problem is gone. Hope this works for you also. Good luck!

Oh...so you're playing BF2 on a laptop and this just started happening?

Hmm..I wonder..does Dell have any driver updates?

What I'd do:

-delete My Documents\Battlefield 2
-go to dell.com and get all driver updates (chipset, LCD display(?))
-go to Windows Update and get ALL updates (including hardware)
-start up BF2

PS - I'm using older nVidia drivers on my secondary machine, so it certainly isn't the 91.28 drivers doing this.

you deleted your entire bf2-my docs directory? Isn't there some stuff in there needed to run the game?

I think it will just re-create the directory when ya join another game.

Exactly..you can delete it all you like. Nothing 'necessary' is stored there.

You'll have to retrieve your account info on the login screen though because it wipes out all saved BF2 usernames and passwords.

I always make a backup of my controls.con file and that's it when I delete that directory.

I get the exact same thing: 15.0/66.7 but only after playing a few minutes of iron gator, and that map only. is this a driver issue? I havent had any hardware or software changes.

My friend JUST got this error when he installed HIS new LCD monitor.

I had him go through the same steps and now his problem is solved.

-install new monitor drivers
-delete contents of My Documents\Battlefield 2
-load up BF2 and change your settings
-start up a map to optimize shaders
-quit BF2
-start up BF2 again

It was actually quite funny..we were just playing around after his new monitor install and I was having him check his FPS just to make sure his new widescreen res wasn't causing him performance issues...and then he says 'man..it sure got laggy!', and I ask him 'what's your FPS?' and he replies '15 fps'. I then stated 'lemme guess, the other number is 66.7?' and he replied incredulously 'how the HELL did you know that?'

obviously im going to backup my bf2 docs and profile (prob just rename it since its over a gig). I guess ill have to custom put back in my controls config file and let bf2 handle the video stuff.
