tv camera have greater view distance?

ok, so im playing wake, and i take off from the carrier in an attack helo.

im piloting, and we are going along, and then i see that my gunner has fired off a tv missle..i thought maybe he was just a noob and testing it out.

turns out there was a chinese attack helo coming right toward us, but it didnt come into view until a little bit after he had fired off the tv camera at it (missed barley).

i have my view distance set at 100%, so are there other factors that give you greater view distance, or does looking thru the TV missle view give you some extra disance?

May have been shooting off blindly because he assumed something would be heading your way? The view distance with the TVGM sucks, so it has to be that....

I've been experiencing this too... in fact, I was at a LAN, and playing co-op against bots, and my friend could see an APC with the TV-camera, while I could see nothing! :-/

I do that all the time, I call it probing. especially on a map like wake, you know the enemy is heading in one direction usually, towards the carrier.

I do also. Since you can guide the missle, you get to see what is ahead as the missle travels. Sometimes you get to hit something, other times you just get to see what is ahead.

I do this too. Usually fire one off shortly after heading off, or once i hit about 350m to a flag. This way I can see whats ahead, and maybe pick off a tank or apc along the way.

When I fly I kill my gunner if they probe around with their missile. You want to probe around? Stick a telescope up somebodys ass and "probe" around.

It wastes missiles not to mention decreases your accuracy score with that vehicle.

                    Yea, can't have that...
A good deal of the TV kills I make are out of visual range (tho spotted by team-mates or commander...

You sir, make no sense. planes, jets, tanks, etc don't have accuracy rating for one thing. and even if they did a lone tv missle would count just as much as a hit or miss as any shot from the primary cannon. not to mention that YOU didn't shoot it, so it wouldn't affect your accuracy anyway.

As for the waste of a missle, the knowledge you gain by doing this FAR exceeds that of having one more missle. How many times do you really fire all TV missles before rearming anyway? Not to mention if you do it after take off (like I said) You're still in the "armory zone" anyway and the missle will be replenished.

Go kill more gunners, the world needs more solo pilots thinking they're better alone. /sarcasm

Yeah, the good players do this all the time. Generally the first missile won't hit anything due to short range but it gives them an advance on what is ahead of them as you fly closer to the enemy.

He is not hacking, have a greater view distance, or any other advantage.

I know, from myself, that I am always firing off TV missles into the fog, actually looking for targets because I know when I spot one, I can quickly maneuver it around onto the target. Quick death from seemingly nowhere.

If the area ahead ends up being clean, at least you now have seen everything ahead of you, and can be prepared.

                            Please make some sense people.

                            1) He either had his map opened, saw what the commander spotted and fired.

                            2) He used free mouse look to see the chopper. (I swear if you guys don't know this, uninstall bf2). Matter of fact, that works in any game. If you're playing infantry and want to look at something infront of you but can't see that far, turn left or right. If you use free mouse look and look farther to either your left or right, you can see farther.

                            3) It was just a blind shot to see where something was.

It's one of those three things.
