Im about to throw this game out the window

I borrowed BF2 from a friend who wasnt playing it anymore. and ive been trying to get it to run for 3 days. Ive installed and uninstalled it atleast 10 times. Im having 3 distinct problems:

1. My client very rarely gets past the "connecting to accounts server" screen.

2. When (by some miracle) get past "1", and i try to join a game, the game crashes to desktop. Ive tried launching it from in game and from gamespy with the same results.

3. when the game actually starts(only a few times now) i'll get disconnected from the server after only a few minutes.

I have tried testing with versions 1.22 and 1.3.

I know its not my PC. i have an athlon X2 4400+ 2 gigs of ram and a 7800GTX. if i can run FEAR at 91FPS, i can run BF2.

anyone have any suggestions?

1.22 not working properly???

YOu got the new x2 drivers from AMD, that may be your problem, i have a opty and the new ones (may) i dont have any issues

I found refresh rate higher than 70 hz does this?>recomend 60hz

but it may be the ram leak issue back?

Just an off-the-wall observation here. I've heard a lot of people having problems with running Norton's A/V. What are you using?

85 hz is the way to go for smooth screen.

Agreed yes, but my moinitor tops out at 72 @ 1600x1200

Happened to me exactly like that!!

Easiest countermeasure: Windows Service Pack 2

If you have it already and/or doesn't work, do the following:
1) Check for spyware/ adware / dialers (recommend Adaware). These
programms can block vital LAN ports
2) On your desktop Start->RUN ->msconfig -> last folder (startup). start
closing programs that you don't know and are not viatl -> restart

2 worked for me!! If you live in an appartment, you might wanna talk to
the people who installed the internet connection. They sometimes (often)
lock certain ports for security, that are vital to run BF2.

Being able to play other games and not BF2 is sadly not a reason to think that the problem isn't with you and your setup.


All your problems are related to your Inet connection.
Do you use wireless?

chill dude they will resolve it one decade:p
but i have had 2 issues not related directly

1 connection issues
2 desktop crash<<this is more likely ram leak like orig bf2??(nuthn to do with connections)
yes it is 1.3 but 2 different issues

I've had almost zero problems with the game since I bought it - SF too. The biggest problem I've had are six crashes to desktop since last June - yes I've kept track.

Hell, my Microsoft Outlook has more problems than BF2.

YOIur lucky man, Just noticed that guy got himself banned lol. But i gotta say, hes got a point, although he went about that the wrong way. The more people that buy or continue to give EA/DICE money, the more they wont bother to fix the problems. But then again, even if they were hit in the wallet, Im sure they'll just move on and forget it anyway

If you got duel core also, download a program called 'prioaff' and in the shortcut to program put the commands you want.

1 - idle
2 - normal
3 - real time (Not recomended for BF2 and should use both cores)

then

1 - Core 0
10 - Core 1
11 - Both

So mine looks like this:

C:\WINDOWS\prioaff.exe 2 10 "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Its set to Core 1 on normal mode. This is because generally things use Core 0, and so does my download programs. SO downloading runs on Core 0 while i play BF2 on core 1 :)
