    Some advice please

I've owned BF2 since the day it was released. I've played it on and off since then. The reason i'm still playing CSS is because i simply can't play BF2 anymore. Patching fails. Server lists don't work. Now i hear the game doesn't work even when patched?! I know many of you regulars will have heard this hundreds of times but i feel it needs to be said more often. I am a great fan of the game and i really wanted to play it having heard about 1.3.

    Can anyone tell me:

How to patch the game. I've downloaded the patch from several locations. Each one fails and i have to reinstall BF2 then try the patch again to find it doesn't work again. I easily meet the specs for the game, i've played it enough to know.

    Is it worth even patching?

One last thing that will no doubt get this flamed and locked. Has anyone thought of maybe taking EA/Dice to court? They have a game that simply doesnt work and expect people to pay for it. People who run servers have to pay for something that doesn't work.

If you must flame, at least tell me how you managed to patch the game.

Do you have a lot of free space on the drive you're installing on?

Just a thought. I didn't have this error, but why not try installing 1.22 and then 1.3 over top of it. It's crazy I know, but when I installed Special Forces and then the full 1.3 over top of it, BF2 stopped CTDing.

I've heard 'patching failed' sometimes occurs if you have done funny things to your installation, including but not limited to: using ***** exes, renaming exe's, using incremental patches (no problem for me, mine worked fine).

                    My reinstall process would be:

                    bf2 -> SF -> 1.3 full patch.

The other problem use to be that BF2 wasn't installed in the default dir. I also read that people with problems installed 1.03 1st because it made major changes such as decrypting the CD key in the registry then they installed the full 1.3 patch.

I recently formatted and installed BF2 then SF then the full 1.3, other than server crashes and the join button doesn't always work (there's another fix if you click the join button and CTD hit escape instead) and all the other bugs that 1.3 brought I don't CTD.

Happend to my uncle. He sent EA and email and all they told him was to reinstal bf2, then reinstal special forces and Euro. Then instail the full patch.

Fresh install of BF2. No expansions. No messing with files. Legit copy of the game.

Basically i give i up. I enjoyed what i played of the game. I'll go back to CSS until ET:QW comes out. The fact is i own a game i cannot play because the company is... i don't know the word to describe it. A brilliant game ruined. Better luck to all of you.

                            might be flaky ram
I had many issues with patching till I replaced ram
even multiple modified error content msgs on map loads
                            now error free

dude post your pc set up,
the problem may lie there, the patch has caused problems for a lot of people since its release an some of them are due to the pc that there running on aswell.
ive read in EA forums that vBF2 use's 1 gig of ram just to play the game an running SF is a little more,
plus running windows in the back ground 512 of ram.
