    Do you have a microphone?

I just bought a Logitech USB headset that's pretty awesome - It works great.

But it seems to me like not a lot of people have mics on Battlefield 2, which is a pity.

    Do you?

Yes. But it kind of feels wierd to talk at people on bf2 when they don't talk back.

I try and say Hi when I join a squad...and if no one replies, then I dont worry too much...but on the servers I use, nearly everyone seems to chat it up a bit during the game

I have a mic and I use it whenever possible.

I find the idea of being "shy" while playing an on-line game kinda silly. Then again, I ain't exactly a shy guy IRL either.

Gotta watch that. Mental note: Do not ask cute girls out when their boyfriend is standing 5 feet away.

                  Hmmm... Digressing?
                  Yes.

My stunt to try to get people to talk is to do a "mic check" even if I know damned well they can hear me. "Mic check, anyone getting this?". If no-one responds via voice, I'll say "Check 2. If you can hear me hit acknowlaged!". Then I start yappin. Generally someone will start replying fairly quickly. Usually they have to grab their mic 'n put it on.

Re: Do you have a microphone?

Some people that don't have mics, will still hear you, and that can still be quite helpful. especially if your a squad leader, and your getting info from the command, they generally want to know.

Yes alot of people can't hear you, or the server might not have it set up right. However those times when it does work, it makes even losing ALL that much more involving, and generally you do somewhat better, even if you don't win the round.

Trust me, if theres ONE thing that this game has above others, it's ALL the ways you can communicate, and a decent built in VOIP. When it comes together it makes even a game with little problems here and there, all the more worthwhile to play.

Re: Do you have a microphone?

VoIP is one of the best tools in the game. It's a shame that so many servers encourage the use of outside-the-game solutions to the same problem.

People say "sound quality", but I really don't give a sh!t about the sound quality of a voice conversation with some guy online. What I do care about is understanding him, and having him understand me, and the in-game VoIP's automute of background noise is a huge advantage, plus the on-screen indication of whether I'm overmodulating or not, plus the indicator of who is speaking, rather than the absolutel lack of any info about the speaker when using Ventrilo or TS.

I use my mic when other people use it, I find that people that are regulars on the same server tend to join squads where they recognize players names that use mics well.

When I am a SL, and no one is using Mics, I use it to yell at the commander for the Arty strike that just killed my whole squad while the flag was turning.

I have a mic, not many people on bf2 use it. When they do though it has been the best experience Ive had on bf2 since I bought it.
