Copy all of the files from:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\shaders_client
to:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\shaders

and

Copy all of the files from:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\shaders_client
to:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\shaders

After you have copied the files, install the FULL 1.3 patch, as the SF install will remain at version 1.1, even though your vanilla BF2 will be up to date. This will prevent you from receiving a modded map error when you try to load one of the SF maps.

My shaders_client are RARed. Should I unRAR them or should I just copy the whole RARed directory.

I just bought SF because it's now only $20. I too get this ridiculous shaders error. Here's hoping running the full 1.3 patch will take care of it. Thank God for this forum. I wouldn't know what else to do. EA is an embarrassment to themselves with this shoddy programming.

RAR and zip are almost the same thing. You can unRAR them, but I would try installing the FULL update first, since it seems to fix most of the problems.

did what you guys said buy when i try to play the BF2 start screen with the tank and then after like a few minents a messages pops up and says it has to quite. i dont want to unistalle cus i got bf2 from my friend and hes out of town. so what should i do?

Just use the FULL 1.3 patch. That will prevent that error from appearing.

its not in the client_shaders.rar.

All you need to do is repatch 1.3

Yup. If you have SF installed, do not use the incremental patches, dont know why, but they normally do not work or have given many people headaches, so use the FULL patch, do 1.3 and then run 1.4.

Just got Special Forces.

I figured out the lightning shader prob myself,but I wish i would have seen this thread before following EAs directions and uninstalling bf2 and special forces.

I had BF2 patched up to 1.4 full
got the SF game installed it and tried running it to get the same shaders lightnight.fx error message.
i then ran my bf2 1.4 patch full again and they both work 100% it worked fine!

also if anyone expriences logging into the EA Account through the game to take about 5-10 mintues i just found out why its because the 'Play BF2 Online Now' icon is faulty on some cd's as is BF2's Special Forces.

If you go into either BF2 or Special Forces through the 'play bf2' or 'play bf2 sf' icons if will work first time.

I hope this infomation helps people in future.. it took me hours to fix and find out!

Ok so I'm having this problem for SF now all i have to do is reinstall BF 1.4 patch after unzipping the stuff in the folder i haven't done the 1.4 patch but without it I'm getting the Unmodified content problem. so would the 1.4 patch fix all of this for SF and i won't get both problems?
and now when i Run my BF2 not SF i only have 294 servers instead of 900 and i cant join the servers i usually play...
