Free cam is a server side setting I believe, and I think it's disabled on most if not all ranked servers.

No its not, most servers inc both of ours have it allowed.

To close the spawn screen click the X in the top right hand corner. Most servers only have chase cam, very few run free cam.

find a server that has battle recorder active, play a game, and go to the community tab to watch it. its the next best thing to watching it live

What he said....IF you find a server that has "Free Camera" enabled, there is a key you need to press to activate it, but I don't know what it is b/c I don't think I've ever played on a server that had it (makes for a game full of commanders who can see anything and everything).

When you die and arent able to spawn you can press SPACE BAR to activate free cam. Then you can fly and look around. If the spawn screen pops up just click on the X on the top right and it wont bother you again until you press ENTER or CAPSLOCK. I dont think freecam is useless as i have used it many times to figure out where that "sniper" shot me from

well - it is NOT useless
it allows a player to hover anywhere and report back what they see
which is why we keep it off

too easy to abuse
ie cheat - like a permanent uav with voice feedback
