It seems I am not - by a long chalk - the only person who thinks a heavy lift troop transport option is a good idea...
Aside from my C130 idea (for paratroopers) I mentioned that something like a Sea Kinght (naval Chinook) would be another good option for air assaults from the Essex...
Well, I completely forgot that the US Marines have been working on an up-to-date replacement for the Sea Knight helicopter for some time - the V-22 Osprey.
-- The 'Rising Conflicts' modders hadn't forgotten though and have produced this beautiful model of a unique aircraft:

Thanks Total BF2 for reminding me!
Real world facts about the V-22 Osprey: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-22_Osprey
The chief advantages of the Osprey over traditional helicopters is the speed and manouverability of the aircraft - something like this would make getting ashore in BF2 a little less hazzardous!

Er - PS - obviously these guys thought of this BEFORE I started ranting on about heavy lift options...But I still like to think of it as MY obsession!
