How to maximize view distance?

I tried increasing my view distance from the default 90% to 100%, but it didn't seem to do much except lag me alot more. Pretty much all my settings are at medium, and my screen resolution at 1280x1024. I look at some screenshots that have the view distance go as far as the eye can see, and thats what I am trying to accomplish. As a pilot, I begin to lose sight of the ground at 400 meters high, so that would assume my view radius is roughly 400 meters. Im currently using a Geforce 6600, and I was told that would be more than enough to run BF2 at an average FPS with over-average settings.

Different maps have a "fog" that limit your view distance. On maps like Karkand there's a fog, but not on Kubra Dam.

Without getting some kind of hack you can't see past 100%, which is about 400 meters I believe.

Turning "Geometry" to high should increase your view distance. That, and increasing the view distance, are the only ways.

I read in some magazine that if you use the highest grafics you will get a lower view distance than if you use some other kind of settings. I would really like to know the answer to this question too...

"Some Magazine"? That's pretty vague. It was probably for another game, as there isn't anything of that sort in BF2. Turning Geometries and view distance to high are the only ways without the use of hacks.

brandom, you have 8 posts, and this one at least is completely and utterly useless. mate, grow up or dont bother wasting everybody's time.

ON topic, i rememnber a thread long long ago where the lower graphics setting on Mashtuur actually allowed you to see a good deal further than the high settings. I think there was even some surprise with the Mosque Dome appearing to be shinier in Low than in High.

Turning "Geometry" to high should increase your view distance. That, and increasing the view distance, are the only ways.

Moved to support.

The 'fog' is set and cannot be altered and it does vary per map. To change the fog beyond that would require a hack.

The best options to maximize are View Distance and Geometry. So max those first, and then play with the other settings to get best performance.

It drives me crazy too, but that's the reality of online games...having no fog would likely be possible on higher end machines be would be HIGHLY unfair.

You can get more viewing distance by decreasing LOD also. Let say put that to -0.5. (LOD= Level of Detail rendered) Tip use Rivaturner.

well if setting it from 90 to 100% creates more lag...i doubt ull want to decrease the LOD or increase geometrycuz that willdefeinately create more lag
