I have been playing BF2 for about a month now and I have noticed one thing that I find interesting. Although VOIP is extremely useful for teamwork and winning maps, it is hardly ever used, imo. Lately, I have attempted to be commander and I am surprised and frustrated at how many commanders/squadleaders do not use VOIP.

When I command a squad or 2 who do use VOIP it makes my life easier and we usually win the map. I understand that not everyone is into teamwork (this baffles me), but I would at least expect people to be screaming at eachother for teamkills and what not. My most memorable and satisfying times in BF2 have been when I have taken part in a squad communicates well with the commander and eachother. When I am a sqaudleader and have a commander that speaks, the other team mostly doesn't stand a chance. So, help me understand this.Why do you/players choose to not use VOIP when it can be so helpful?

I think it's really the luck of the draw when it comes to players in a server. Have you stopped to think that a lot of servers have VOIP disabled? This is one reason why people cannot and do not communicate. Half of the time, people do not listen to the orders you send out, even if you use VOIP.
The other reason is teamspeak and ventrilo. When I play I am in our ventrilo server and I talk to the people that are usually in my squad.

we use VOIP and Ventrilo
seems as about 1/3 use VOIP these days
far better than 5% in the early days
and VOIP REALY helps team play
