    Heli Flying

    Hello all,
First off, I'm a jet pilot by heart but thought I'd try some heli flying so, obviously I'm used to a joystick.

Now in a heli I can take off, hover, turn left and right but I cannot manage to circle around a target, like having your crosshair on the target at all times and strafing around it.

I have tried using a joystick and I just seem to fly off in random directions. I've tried with a mouse and its something I'm really not used to but tried the same with the mouse but cannot manage it.

If I can figger out how to strafe around a target I feel I will have the basics covered.

Any hints and tips guys? I was going to download the video in the H&T forum but the links don't work

Keep tapping left or right (depending on the direction you want to go) and use the mouse to keep the helo leaning and on the target... just keep practicing. It's really easy, actually.

You need to practise. If you can fly a jet pretty good you can probably fly a heli pretty good. Practise hovering and going slow.

Can someone tell me the exact movements I need to make at the same time as pressing keys?

I've tried all different movements with the default controls to find I just either go backwards or go right or left. I cannot move the tail round while keeping the nose in the same place.

I have never understood the keyboard flyboys. Admittedly, the best pilots I have had the privilege of gunning for have always-without exception--told me they fly with just the keyboard when I asked, and I always do. :) But to me, flying with the keyboard is just too much work not to mention extremely tedious. :p

I only use keyboard/mouse and I do just fine. I don't own a joystick and don't intend to buy one either. I can still take down other jets using joysticks while they do all their acrobatics. Lock and fire.

kb/mouse for helos and jets. It can be done with success and is.

Okay, the principle is you need to execute a sideways strafe with a good amount of momentum (good angle in your sideways bank), while putting your nose down, and yawwing in the opposite direction of your strafe (which will keep your nose on the target as you circle).

I use the mouse mostly. I only use the keyboard in regular for tricks and flips to throw the other guy off.

Guys why i find it too difficult to make quick FORWARDS-BACKWARDS only manuevers with the mouse? I mean its pretty cool to control it with steering (WASD)/rolling but when i have to move the mouse front or back it really beats me. I cant achieve any quick sweep cause i need 3 mouse pads long to be able NOT TO CRASH on a hill after the dive....HELP

a kb will never let u get a perfect circle strafe. only a stick can, cos a stck has variable adjustments. i've been with a pilot that does continuous perfect circle around a single spot. its not that hard with a kb but u need to tap press a or d constantly to keep in the circle.

Ok you didnt understand me....I can maintain a diameter pretty good.

I am reffering to the FORWARDS (PITCH DOWN) and BACKWARDS (PITCH UP) movements of the mouse. As it seems u need to move the mouse way much front or back and quick to be able to do your moves in time just to avoid crashing. I think i am pretty clear.
